Janet Jackson is reportedly battling throat cancer

According to reports, singer Janet Jackson, who recently announced that she’s set to undergo surgery, has a tumor that could be cancerous. “Doctors found a growth on Janet’s vocal cords that could be serious,” a source close to the 49-year-old singer told an entertainment magazine.
The singer shared last December 24 that she was postponing her world tour due to medical issue, writing on Facebook and Twitter accounts, she said: “Hey you guys…Happy Holidays to each and every one of you. I need to know, I learned today from my doctors that I must have surgery soon. It breaks my heart to tell you that I am forced to postpone the Unbreakable Tour until the spring. Every date will be rescheduled. Please hold on your tickets. They will be honored in a special way when the new schedule is announced. Please pray for me, my family and our entire company during this difficult time. There will be no further comment. I love you all so much and am ever grateful for your understanding and your love. Gon’ b alright.”
According to an oncologist, there are different types of throat cancer. “Cancers that involve the back of the tongue or tonsil are called oropharyngeal cancer, while those that involve the vocal cord are known as larynx cancers,” the doctor explains.”Some throat cancers are caused by the human papilloma virus or HPV. While most cancers that involve the vocal chords are more closely related to those with history of smoking.”
This is the second time that Jackson has taken a medical break on this tour. Concert dates were put on hold in October of last year so she could give her voice a rest.
