Derek Ramsay refuses to accept another super hero role

Nauna palang inialok ng TV5 at ng Viva Entertainment kay Derek Ramsay ang TV remake ng Ang Panday pero tinanggihan ito ng hunk actor. Napunta tuloy ang nasabing papel sa kamay ni Richard Guttierez. Para kay Derek, feeling nito ay mas nababagay kay Richard para gampanan ang papel ng ‘Panday.’ Nakagawa na rin naman kasi ng superhero series sa TV5 si Derek dati kaya’t gusto naman niyang gumanap ng ibang klaseng roles. “Been there, done that na kasi noong taong 2013, nagawa ko na ang Kidlat. I want to tackle roles naman na hindi ko pa nagagawa,” bungad ni Derek sa Philippine Showbiz Republic (PSR.ph).
“I don’t want to say na second choice si Richard because that would be very unfair for him since he’s been in the industry before I came. Hindi ko rin pwedeng i-claim na mas angat ako sa kanya, that would be outright rude.”
Aminado rin si Derek na mas matagal nang artista si Richard at nasa genes nito ang pag-aartista dahil nagmula ito sa angkan ng taga-showbiz. “The guy has more experience and has done more things than I have for the industry,” pag-iwas ni Derek sa posibleng pang-iintriga sa kanila ni Richard dahil sa pagtanggi niya sa nasabing proyekto.
“There’s nothing wrong naman with being a second choice. I won’t mind if I get to be a second choice. You should be happy to be given an opportunity too, if you’re chosen. I’ve been second choice to “English Only, Please,” and I never regretted to have done that project,” paliwanag ni Derek. “Fact is, I was second choice to many movies and I was very thankful na ako yung napili,” dagdag pa niya.
“I was asked if I wanted to do Panday and I said no. It’s such a big project, a great one indeed. I could’ve done it. But I strongly believe it’s not for me. I just want to be fair, kasi I’m known na as Kidlat. It’s something that’s homegrown sa TV5,” pagpapatuloy pa ni Derek. “Honestly, ayoko kasing malito yung viewers. I don’t think it’s going to be fair na, ‘Oh, he portrayed as Kidlat, a superhero, and now he’s Panday as a superhero?’ It just doesn’t look right,” saad ni Derek.
Pinabulaanan din ni Derek na nai-insecure daw diumano siya sa pagpasok ni Richard sa bakuran ng TV5, “No, I’m very supportive about Richard joining the network. Hindi iyan totoo. He’s a welcome addition to our network’s talents. I never see him as a ‘threat’ or something,” paglilinaw niya.
Ayaw rin daw tanggapin ni Derek ang taguri sa kanya bilang hari ng TV5, aniya: “I don’t see myself as such. I believe I’m one of their talents and I will work hard to help make the network grow.”
Ayon pa kay Derek, going strong pa rin naman daw ang relasyon niya kay Joanne Villablanca. Wala na nga raw siyang mahihiling pa. Mas maganda daw talaga makipagrelasyon sa isang non-showbiz. Dahil nagpakasal na ang kanyang ex girlfriend na si Solenn Heusaff na co-star niya sa pelikulang “Love is Blind,” natanong si Derek kung kailan niya balak sumunod? “Gusto kong isipin na doon na talaga papunta, but like I’ve said, we’re just starting, so marami pa kaming pagdaraanan, marami pa kaming pwedeng gawin together.I’m just happy at tahimik yung relasyon namin, ika nga, smooth sailing. Sa ngayon we’re just enjoying each other’s company. Malayo pa ang tatahakin ng relationship namin. We’re slowly but surely getting there, hopefully in due time, we’ll be altar bound rin.”
