
4th Danish Film Festival unreels at Robinsons Movieworld this November
Now on its fourth year, the Danish Film Festival is set to showcase nine acclaimed full-length films from November 8 to11 at Robinsons Movieworld in Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas, EDSA.
The opening film “Land of Mine,” a Danish-German historical drama war film directed by Martin Zandvliet was selected and nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 89th Academy Awards.
Inspired by real events, the movie tells the story of German prisoners of war sent to clear land mines in Denmark after World War II.
It is estimated that over 2,000 German soldiers, including numerous teenagers, were forced to remove mines, with nearly half of them either getting killed or losing their limbs to explosions.
As part of Danish and Philippine cultural relations, a special screening of Dagsin, a multi-awarded indie Movie by Filipino filmmaker Atom Magadia will also be shown.
Also in the lineup is Susanne Bier’s “In A Better World,” winner of the 2011 Academy award for best foreign language film about two Danish families who cross paths and extraordinary and risky friendship that they have formed, Lisa Ohlin’s “Walk With Me” about a landmine casualty who meets and falls in love with an ascending ballerina from the Royal Danish Ballet in a local rehabilitation center, Kaspar Rostrup’s “Waltzing Regitze” (Memories of a Marriage), an unsentimental portrait of the history and changes of a middle-aged couples’ marriages, told through flashbacks during a summer party, Morten Boesdal Halvorsen’s “Anti” about Simon and his best friend and the challenges they face upon joining a graffiti crew and Henrik Ruben Genz’ “Terribly Happy,” a thriller about a Copenhagen cop who moves to a small town after having a nervous breakdown.
Robert awardee for Best Children’s film Kenneth Kainz fields two of his movies, too: “The Shamer’s Daughter,” a fantasy about a girl who has unwittingly inherited her mother’s supernatural ability and “Otto is a Rhino,” an animation about an optimistic young boy with a vivid imagination who finds a magical pencil and draws a rhino that comes to life.
The 4th Danish Film Festival is organized by the Embassy of Denmark in the Philippines with the support of the Film Development Council of the Philippines through its Film Cultural Exchange Program, Robinsons Galleria and the Danish Film Institute.
Admission is FREE and on a first come, first served basis.
