by PSR News Bureau
Things are coming up roses for The Voice Kids Philippines’ runner-up Darren Espanto. He’s seen performing in concerts abroad along with endorsements, followed by a solo album which is also doing well. And now, as Darren turns 14 years old, he’ll be staging his first major concert, ‘Darren Espanto D Birthday Concert’ at the Mall of Asia Arena on May 29.
In an interview with the media including Philippine Showbiz Republic (PSR) during a press conference, Darren said he was overwhelmed by the support of his fans, the ‘Darrenatics.’ “I’m both excited and nervous at the same time because the venue of my concert will be MOA Arena,”says Darren. “But in everything I do, I give all my best so I’m sure everyone will get their money’s worth during the concert.”
Darren has been busy with rehearsals in preparation for his concert. When asked if there are certain foods he’s not allowed to eat, he says: “I’m not allowed to eat anything sweet or cold because I have to protect my voice.”
Someone had asked about the issue between him and veteran composer Vehnee Saturno whom he forgot to mention on the list of people Darren thanked during his birthday celebration in ASAP 20 last May 24. Vehnee served as composer and producer for a number of songs on Darren’s album.
Darren clarified the issue by saying, “We’ve prepared a long list of people to thank but it’s very unfortunate that we were pressed for time. MCA has spoken to Sir Vehnee and it’s [already] taken care po.”
Young as he is, Darren knows whereof he speaks. He’s been packaged as a ‘total performer in the making,’ because he’s a powerful singer who also got the grooves on the dance floor. He flew all the way from Canada to make his dreams come true—to be the artist the country will be proud of.

With a major label record deal, solo album now certified gold, sold out shows and now a special Birthday concert, what else can he ask for? “I am thankful to all Darrenatics who supported me since day one in The Voice Kids. Not everyone is given opportunities like these and I will continue to work hard and make beautiful music to all my fans,” Darren said.
His latest single, ‘Stuck’ will be having a music video which will also be featured during his concert. Darren even gamely performed the said latest song during the presscon.
Darren will be having TV host Robi Domingo, Bimby Aquino, The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 Champion Jason Dy, The Voice Season 2 second runner up Alisah Bonaobra, G-Force, The Voice of the Philippines Season 1 Champion Mitoy Yonting and Asia’s Got Talent Grand Winner El Gamma Penumbra.
