On the heels of the success of ‘Forevermore’ that catapulted them as the country’s ‘breakthrough’ love team of the year, Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano reunites in Star Cinema’s upcoming offering ‘Just The Way You Are.’ ‘Just The Way You Are’ is based on a successful Pop Fiction novel called ‘The Bet’ by Kimberly Joy Villanueva. The movie is a romantic comedy that tells the story of Drake [Enrique] and Sophia [Liza]. Drake had a ‘bad boy’ image who comes across Sophia, the least popular girl in school through a bet he made with a friend where he’s bound to make her fall head-over-heels in love with him. But beneath Drake’s tough exterior lies a guy that needs some love. Drake and Sophia are two individuals that deal with family issues that would later on define them and finding out their love for each other.

The film marks the first directorial work of Theodore ‘Ted’ Boborol and writers Ceres Helga Barioas and Maan Dimaculangan-Fampule. This is also the first full-length that features Enrique and Liza as lead stars. Prior to the phenomenal success of ‘Forevermore’, they first worked together in 2013’s smash hit ‘She’s The One’ starring Dingdong Dantes and Bea Alonzo.
During the press conference, Liza said she’s very happy with her career. “Everything’s just so overwhelming. This is the first movie where I’m not just playing the ‘thrid wheel,’ but I’m the lead star instead. I feel so blessed,” says the soft spoken actress.
Even Enrique had to be paired with several actresses before finding the right one in Liza. “I guess, they’ve found something special in us. It could be the chemistry, I don’t know. But Liza and I simply clicked right away,” shares Enrique.
Theodore Boborol, the film’s director interjects, “It’s their chemistry that comes across even on screen. That’s the secret of their love team. What you see is what you get, they’re very real. They need not fake the sweetness.”
It comes as no secret that Enrique had a thing for Liza. He understands that he has to wait at least a year because she’s not allowed to accept suitors at 17. “I’m pretty happy and contented that we’re seeing each other everyday at work. I also tell her ‘I love her.’ Although I’m not really asking for her to reciprocate yet,” reveals Enrique.
What do you answer Enrique when he tells you he loves you? “I answer him with, ‘Thank you,’” says Liza with a coy smile.
“During our shoot and tapings, we were able to talk about a lot of things, we’ve found out we’re very similar with our likes and dislikes. We’re pretty compatible. At first, I thought that she was just kidding me. It turned out she’s like the female version of me,” says Enrique.
“Enrique’s someone I can trust and talk about anything under the sun. I call him ‘Mongoloid,’ but of course, it’s just a joke,” said Liza. It was Enrique who suggested her name to the management when they were still looking for someone to be paired with him for ‘Forevermore.’ She was so grateful to Enrique for opening the doors of opportunities for her that on his birthday she gifted him with a pair of shoes and bag.
Their co-star, Yayo Aguila had nothing but good words for the lovely pair. “They’re young but they’re very professional. They never complain, no hanky panky. They’re also very open to learning. When it comes to work, they really give their all. I salute these guys.”
Going back to the movie, ‘Just The Way You Are’ dares to ask moviegoers whether they are ready to risk their hearts in the game called love. Through the story of Drake and Sophia, audiences will be reminded that love is like a gamble, it’s both tricky and scary at the same time. The key is to try to take the risk with the right person.
“I hope you guys could come and see the film. I can assure you, it’s so worth your money,” invites Liza. Find out how much Drake and Sophia are willing to bet in order to find true love.
‘Just The Way You Are’ also stars Yayo Aguila, Alex Diaz, Jon Lucas, Chienna Filomeno, Marco Gumabao, Myrtle Sarrosa, Kyra Custodio, Miguel Vergara, Yves Flores, Sue Ramirez, and Erin Ocampo with the special participation of Ton Ton Guttierez and Sunshine Cruz.
‘Just The Way You Are’ premieres in all cinemas nationwide starting on June 17.
