Kahit matagal nang artista si Piolo Pascual, inamin niya sa Philippine Showbiz Republic (PSR) sa isang panayam namin sa aktor na hindi pa rin siya gaanong sanay humarap sa maraming tao, lalo’t higit ang mag-perform para sa mga ito [audience]. “Until now, believe it or not, but I still get overwhelmed. I could feel my eyes twitch, my cheeks are shaking, while my legs turn to jelly each time I’d perform.”
How do you find Sarah?
“Sobrang giggly ni Sarah sa akin, hahaha! Buti na lang ‘Kuya’ ang tawag niya sa akin, hindi ‘Tito.’”
Hindi ka ba na-conscious sa age gap ninyo ni Sarah?
“Well, not really. I guess people find some chemistry in us despite the age gap. Besides, Sarah isn’t the youngest I’ve been paired with. I’m only 11 years older than her while Shaina [Magdayao] who was my leading lady in the film “On-the-Job” is younger than her [Sarah]. I’m 15 years older than Shaina. In this industry kasi, women age more than men. Halata na bang malaki yung age gap naming ng mga leading ladies ko?,” balik-tanong ni Piolo.
According to Piolo, when he reports on the set, he’s already ‘in character,’ so if you don’t know him personally, you might think he’s such a snob. “When you see me on the set, usually, I am internalizing. Mahirap kasi for me to shoot a really heavy drama scene and then during the break hang-out with the cast and have fun with them and then back to being serious. I’d rather do whatever scenes it is that I need to do, once I’m done with them, that’s the only time I can do some ‘fun’ time,” paliwanag pa niya.
Piolo’s grateful that he’s given the chance to work with scriptwriter/director Antoinette Jadaone and her boyfriend-director Dan Villegas. He says, “I love seeing them together. They give me this ‘kilig’ feeling.” He’s also amazed by Sarah’s explosive line against his character ‘Gino’ in the movie: “Do me a favor, huwag mo na akong patayin ulit!”
Ano ang natutunan mo sa mga past breakups na naranasan mo?
Walang kagatol-gatol na sagot ni Piolo, “Acceptance.” “Naniniwala kasi ako na kung mahal mo yung karelasyon mo, maliban sa respeto, kailangan mong tanggapin siya kung ano talaga yung pagkatao niya.”
Nang matanong ang aktor kung ano ang mas pipiliin nito, kung love or career, hindi nagdalawang-isip ang aktor at nagpaka-praktikal ito at sinabing mas gusto niya ang career. “For years, I’ve been married to ABS-CBN/my career. I’ve learned to accept the fact na hindi ako multi-tasker. So for now, career ang pipiliin ko,” paliwanag ni Papa P.
Siyempre hangad din naman ng guwapong aktor na makahanap ng kanyang mamahalin at hopefully ay mapapangasawa. Pero ayon na rin sa kanya’y hindi ito ang kanyang prayoridad sa ngayon. “Mabilis lang naman ang panahon. Sabi nga nila, ‘strike while the iron is hot,’ so habang gusto ng fans na nandito ako, I’ll be here for them. Pero hindi ko talaga kayang pagsabayin yung lovelife at saka yung career. It’ll be very unfair for the girl kasi wala nga akong time for myself, so sa kanya pa kaya? Pupunta rin tayo diyan [love life] in due time, only God knows when.”
Samantala, humahataw na sa mga sinehan ang pelikulang “The Breakup Playlist,” handog ng Star Cinema at Viva Films.
