Jul 20, 2016

Produced by Bert and Felix Production, “Magtanggol” is an indie-thriller film under FullSizeRender(1)the direction of Sigfreid Barros Sanchez which tackled the theme “Sino Ang Bayani Ng Mga Bagong Bayani”.

The director said their film just finished its screening in UP Film Center and soon to show in universities including PUP, Benilde and Manila Tytana College.

They started their talks with some colleges based in Taguig. The team according to the director got feelers from OFW’s in Thailand and Dubai. They also sent their screeners in some International Film Festivals and soon to have one-week-screening in Rockwell, Aug. 24-30 which in time for National Heroes Day.

“Hinihintay din namin ang sagot ng Ayala Cinemas kung sasabay sila ng screening sa August 24. So far, we are hitting our target markets. Gusto namin syang ipalabas sa mga lugar na may malaking communities na ang mga pamilya ay mga pamilya ng OFW’s like Ilocos, etc”

According to Direk Sigfreid, they had to shoot three days straight to finish the film and make it to its first screening last April 27, SM Megamall. He had taken all the means to survive, taken those sweets and soda to stay awake on those straight days.

“But overall, the shoot went well. The producers were very supportive. All the artists involved were very passionate”, the director added.

“Ang sama ko ng loob ay sa SM Cinemas na alas-kwarto palang ng hapon ng first day of showing ng pelikula namin ay pinull-out na agad sa mga strategic na SM Malls gaya ng SM Megamall, SM North at SM Sta. Mesa”, the director expressed.

The director always giving its audience a real story that inspires, moves and influences. He, as a director, has this vision of creating a real world for real people. He wanted to see the unseen and wanted to tell the untold by capturing the real situations and real people.

barrosDirek Sigreid had already made nine (9) films but he never submitted most of it to international film festivals. He just wanted to tell story for the people which the moviegoers and film critics admired.

“I make films for our kababayans, the simple Filipinos. I feel that more than an obligation to get an international award, I have an obligation na itaas ang consciousness ng mga Filipino viewers  on how to appreciate films made by the new breed of filmmakers rather than show it to an international audience”

But for now, Direk Sigfreid is inviting all the Filipinos to watch his film “Magtanggol” for us not only to be entertained but also to realize the worth of our modern-day heroes—the OFW’s. He also said that his film is for the audience who wanted a new taste of story.

Moviegoers are excited and happy for the comeback of the film on screen. The film stars Joonee Gamboa, Tom Rodriguez, Ejay Falcon, Albie Casino, Yam Concepcion, Denise Laurel, Ricky Davao, Kim Domingo and Ms. Dina Bonnevie.
