FDCP Chair Liza Diño seeks to intensify regional filmmaking
Nakapanayam ko ang bagong FDCP Chair na si Liza Diño sa launch ng ika-19 na edisyon ng Cine Europa.
Sa nasabing launch, proud niyang ibinida na tampok ang pelikulang Pinoy tulad ng “Ma’ Rosa” ni Brillante Mendoza at “Mana” ni Gabby Fernandez na nakatakdang ipalabas sa naturang film festival.
“Isa kasi sa mga projects ng FDCP ay iyong cultural outreach program natin to give an opportunity for Pinoy films to be screened and enjoyed by a foreign audience”, bungad niya.
Bilang bagong FDCP chair, ano ang plano mo sa local film industry?
“Actually, nakakatuwa ang support ng (film) community. Me, as a chair, I want a more inclusive community. We wanna go to the regions. We wanna know about their needs and tell their stories and to be able to share them across the regions. The thrust kasi ng FDCP right now is to converge. Unity, diversity and more inclusions. Being a supporter of regional films, ang focus namin is to go regional”, ayon sa award-winning actress.
Ano ang na-diskubre mo sa iyong paglilibot sa iba’t ibang regions at film communities sa bansa?
“There’s no uniform solution. Lahat ng regions, may kanya-kanyang needs. Iyong iba, may mga sarili nang festivals, iyong iba naman wala so we try to focus on the specific needs of these communities. Iyon ang nawawala kasi sa atin, istorya ng ibang rehiyon, istorya ng ibang tao sa ibang sulok ng Pilipinas na minsan ay hindi alam dito sa Maynila. May kanya-kanyang istorya ang bawat rehiyon na kailangang paigtingin at palaganapin para mai-promote na mabuti ang ating kultura”, paliwanag niya.
Ano ang pinakamalaking problema ng film industry sa ngayon?
“Audience development. There’s a great divide right now with the films that we have. We have so much content and but we have little audience. Kaya nga, we’re doing our best for the audience to realize that there are alternative films that they can watch”, aniya.
Ano sa iniisip mong mga solusyon na sa palagay mo ay ‘doable’ sa ngayon?
“Iyong film workshops, seminars, lectures, forums just to give them inspiration. Part of the filmmaking process kasi is to prepare and equip them with skills and knowledge to the best they can be… to always upgrade their craft. To always make sure na iyong aesthetics ng film ay hindi nakakalimutan so kailangan din ng reinforcements”, bulalas niya.
Lahat ng film festivals, mapa-local man o foreign ay suportado ng Film Development Council of the Philippines, nangangahulugan bang sa bawat festival ay kasama na ang Filipino component sa bansa?
“I proposing to them for that to happen”, pakli niya.
Sa bago mong administrasyon, ano ang plano mo sa Word Premieres Film Festival? Itutuloy mo ba ito?
“Pinag-aaralan at tinitingnan natin kong mag-pi-fit ba siya sa plan natin for next year. Siyempre, limitado rin kasi ang budget and there are constraints pero we’re looking into it. If we plan to go regional, then there are things that would come as priority first. World Premieres Film Festival is a good upstart to bring in filmmakers to showcase their films. Hopefully, we could continue it if we have the resources. Hopefully, maituloy natin siya next year or the next”, sey niya.
Masyadong hectic ang trabaho mo bilang FDCP chair. Open ka pa ba sa mga acting offers?
“Sobrang conflict of interest talaga. Nandito ako para suportahan ang film community. Siguro, iyong excitement at eagerness to help and support this community, iyong suporta ng community iyon ang nagiging daan para maibsan iyong thirst o moment ko na gusto kong umarte. As long as I feel na nakakatulong ako every step of the way, that would be more than enough for me. Gusto kong suportahan ang FDCP at lahat ng festivals kaya mahihirapan talaga”, pagwawakas niya.
