1st ToFarm Songwriting Competition launched
Kapuri-puri ang layunin ni Dra. Milagros How, Executive Director ng Universal Harvester, Inc. sa pag-aangat ng kalagayan ng ating mga limot na bayani sa bansa: ang mga magsasaka.
Pagkatapos ng matagumpay na 1st ToFarm Film Festival na nagpupugay sa mga magsasaka na kanyang brainchild, heto na naman ang isa pa niyang makabuluhang proyekto: ang kauna-unahang ToFarm Songwriting Competition.
“After the success of the 1st ToFarm Film Festival, I saw it forthcoming. I know, it has to follow. If ToFarm Film Festival is a feast for the eyes, ToFarm Songwriting Competition is a feast for the ears. Ito iyong kulang na lang para makumpleto iyong festival. Dito, we’re just utilizing another field of art which is music. You know naman na music is a universal language and Pinoys are musical people. With their musical compositions, we hope to discover musical wonders that will highlight the diligence, hard work, perseverance, resilience, tenacity and optimism of our farmers and kabababayans. We hope also na maka-discover tayo ng new talents hindi lang mga composers at pati singers na magiging katulong natin sa mga projects ng ToFarm”, saad ni Mrs. How.
Ayon naman kay Project Director Rommel Cunanan, hindi naman kataka-takang isang songwriting competition ang naisip ng butihing si Mrs. How dahil malapit sa puso nito ang musika dahil isa itong gifted pianist.
“Si Ma’am kasi, mahilig din siya sa musika. Iyong mga structures namin sa music, pati na iyong mga projects na sinusuportahan niya tulad niya, tulad noong mga singers, choirs at pati iyong mga grupong nagpe-perform at naipadala niya sa ibang bansa, napakarami niyang natutulungan… and I think ,that is what makes her a patroness of the arts. Mas kilala rin siya among her friends dahil nagpipiyano siya kapag naiimbitahan sa mga special events”, kuwento niya.
“Planting The Seeds of Change” ang tema ng kauna-unahang Songwriting Competition sa bansa na bukas sa lahat ng amateur at professional songwriters.
Puwede rito ang iba’t-ibang genre ng songs tulad ng folk/ acoustic, rock, jazz, rhythm and blues, country, pop, inspirational o fusion.
Mga bigatin at pinagpipitaganan ang mga bumubuo ng selection committee nito na kinabibilangan nina Jed Balsamo, resident music director ng Ballet Philippines, Maestro Oliver Ochanine, former music director ng Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra at Luchi Roque, trustee and former Program director ng Trustee ng National Music Competitions for Young Artists Foundation (NAMCYA).
Kakaiba rin ang ToFarm Songwriting Competition sa ibang kilalang songwriting competition sa bansa dahil non-profit at hindi commercial ito o itinayo para kumita.
Walang bayad ang application fee rito at sinuman ay puwedeng sumali.
Siyam na finalists ang pipiliin ng ToFarm Listening Committee.
Ang mga mapipili ay iaanunsyo sa Disyembre 5.
Maliban sa tropeo, ang mga mananalo ay tatanggap ng mga cash prizes: P300,000 para sa grand winner, P200,000 para sa first runner up at P100,000 para sa second runner up.
Ang itatanghal na Peoples’ Choice awardee ay tatanggap ng P75,000.
Ang deadline sa pagsusumite ng entries ay itinakda sa Nobyembre 18, 2016.
Ang Finals night naman ay gaganapin sa Pebrero 6, 2017.
