JC de Vera shoots without a script; explains near scuffle with Daniel Padilla
KAPAMILYA ACTOR JC de Vera is quite a versatile actor who has shown his versatility in both dramas and comedies.
But, would you believe that the roles that he loves most are those that really challenge his wits?
Well, the actor is up for another challenging in his acting career in Sherad Anthony Sanchez’ thriller, “Salvage.”
“Cameraman ako ni Jessy (Mendiola) na isang journalist. Isa ako roon sa parang nasapian ng kulto. Pareho naming pinuntahan iyong place kung saan kailangang gumawa niya ng documentary. Lahat kami napasubo doon sa myth na sinasabi nila na na-prove naming totoo pala,” he opened up.
He clarified however, that the PPP entry is not a political movie about extrajudicial killings.
“Hindi siya political. Totally, wala siyang connection sa mga nangyayari ngayong extrajudicial killings. It’s more of socio-economic kasi noong nag-shoot kami, malayo pa ang election that time,” he said.
In an interview, he shared to PSR his hurdles while doing the movie.
“The whole film is difficult to shoot dahil nasa gubat kami at may mga elemento roon na hindi namin ma-control.
“During the shoot, nagloloko iyong camera namin. Tapos, may mga gustong eksenang kunan si Direk Sherad pero hindi niya makuha dahil may mga elemento raw na hindi nag-a-agree sa ginagawa namin.
“Nag-shoot din kami sa abandoned school na alam naming may mga elementong nakapaligid sa amin. We attract kasi dahil we are shooting a film about elements,” he recounted.
It was also his first time to shoot a movie without any script.
“Personally, sobrang excited ako. I don’t know what will I do noong una. Wala kasing iskrip. Walang permanent location, basta, ikot nang ikot lang kami sa gubat. Para sa iba, nakakatakot iyon.
“First time ko ring makasubok ng ‘found acting’ kung saan kung ano iyong hinihingi ng eksena iyon ang gagawin namin. Wala siyang sinusundang iskrip kasi on the spot, nagcre-create si Direk Sherad ng mga eksena sa isip niya and then, nakumpleto naman namin,” he pointed out.
Based on his experiences, he would like to believe that there could really be supernatural creatures lurking in forests.
“Meron siyang inspirasyon sa kanyang kuwento. Even us, we’re not sure if it’s a myth or katotohanan ba siya. Pero, based sa ginawa namin, hindi siya imposible. For us, sa experience namin, puwede siyang mangyari tulad ng sinasabi ni Direk Sherad, pero not sure lang kung saang probinsya sa Pilipinas,” he said.
JC also feels sad that her Salvage costar Jessy Mendiola quit “Banana Sundae,” their Sunday gag show.
“Siyempre, nami-miss ko siya. Naging part na siya ng “Banana Sundae”. Siyempre, we have to adjust again tulad ng pag-a-adjust namin noong pumasok siya. Actually, nasorpresa ako noong nawala siya pero ako naman, supportive ako kay Jessy sa anumang career decisions niya,” he said.
He also explained his side regarding the near-scuffle with fellow Kapamilya actor Daniel Padilla during the Star Magic All-Star basketball game held recently.
“Basketball naman is a very physical sport and anything can happen. Actually, kapag ganoon hindi naiiwasan ang magkapisikalan pero, okey na kami dahil nag-apologize na ako sa kanya at ganoon din siya sa akin,” he concluded.
Aside from Jessy, Salvage also stars Karl Medina, Joel Saracho, Barbie Capacio and a lot more.
This edge-of-the seat thriller is now playing in cinemas nationwide as part of the first Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.
