Jaclyn Jose stars in a funny, irreverent and heartwarming movie
T-Rex Productions’ “Patay na si Hesus” was the first movie that Jaclyn Jose made after winning her best actress plum at the 69th Cannes Film Festival in Brillante Mendoza’s “Ma Rosa” last year.
Actually, she considers it a respite from her usual heavy dramas.
“Medyo, mabigat ang tema noong “Ma Rosa,” so naghahanap kami ng materyal na medyo magaan naman. Tapos, dumating nga iyong offer ko to do a Cebuano movie, nagustuhan ko ang iskrip kaya ginawa ko,” she recounted. “Besides, ayoko rin namang makahon lang ako sa drama,” she added.
According to the award-winning actress, it’s her first time to do a smart, funny and irreverent movie.
“May pagka-bulgar iyong karakter ko rito. Pero, hindi siya iyong tipong nagpapatawa
kundi iyong karakter niya ang mismong nakakatawa,” she said.
In preparation for her role, she took a crash course in colloquial Cebuano.
“Hindi siya madali. Kailangan kong mag-aral ng Cebuano ng three times a week session for two hours. Ito rin iyong time na may ginagawa akong sitcom sa GMA, so nakatulong din siguro iyong exposure ko sa “A-1 Ko Sa ‘yo” para ako mag-loosen up ako kasi nasanay ako sa drama,” she said.
She also loves her experience in doing the said road movie.
“I play the role kasi ng mother na may children na hiniwalayan ng asawa. It’s actually tungkol sa journey ng mag-iina from Cebu to Dumaguete para um-attend ng funeral ng husband niya at father ng mga anak niya.
“Along the way, ang daming nangyari sa kanilang journey. May mga characters na nagsulputan. Actually, it’s irreverent fun na sobra kong na-enjoy dahil never pa akong nakagawa ng ganitong klaseng pelikula”, she said.
“Nakatulong din na Visayan iyong director naming si Victor (Villanueva) kaya na-guide niya kami nang mabuti,” she added.
She’s also grateful for the opportunity given her to shine in a role that is definitely out of her comfort zone.
“Ito iyong pelikulang hindi ko inisip kung ano ba ang magiging dating ng karakter ko: kung magmumukha bang tanga ,bastos ba ang bibig ko o malaswa ang pananalita ko kasi, bagong character siya sa akin, so bago rin ang challenge,” she concluded.
“Patay na si Jesus” also stars Chai Fonacier, Vincent Viado, Mailes Kanapi, Melde Montanez, Sheenly Genre and Olive Nieto.
It is an entry to the first Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino currently happening in cinemas nationwide.
Jaclyn is also in the cast of GMA-7’s “Alyas Robin Hood, Book 2” topbilled by Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes.
