
New FAMAS celebrates night with nominees
Nominees for this year’s 66th Famas awards were honored during an exclusive Nominees’ Victory Party held at Victorino’s Restaurant in Quezon City on Tuesday, May 22.
Incumbent Famas president Francia C. Conrado and jury head Ricky Lee welcomed the nominees coming from all awards categories who received their certificates of nominations during the evening.
Surprise gifts were also given to the lucky attendees.
2017 Cinemalaya winner “Respeto” leads all films with 15 nominations, followed by the QCinema Best Film “Balangiga: Howling Wilderness” with 11 and Metro Manila Film Festival Best Picture “Ang Larawan” with six, the same with the Philippine entry to the Oscars “Birdshot” and the documentary “Yield.”
With five nominations are Star Cinema’s “Love You to the Stars and Back” and Cinemaone Originals movies “Changing Partners,” “Nervous Translation” and “Historiographika Errata.”
The star studded nominees’ night was attended by Julia Barretto, Joshua Garcia, Allen Dizon, Ricky Davao, Jojit Lorenzo,Noel Comia, Jr., Timothy Castillo, Bembol Roco, Angeli Bayani, Dexter Doria, Edgar Allan Guzman, Mon Confiado, Dido dela Paz, Jess Mendoza, Adrienne Vegara, Angeli Sanoy, Yayo Aguila, Thea Yrastorza, Mikhail Red,Thop Nazareno, Shireen Seño, John Torres, Treb Monteras, Arnel Barbarona, Lilit Reyes, Giancarlo Abrahan, James Mayo, Adrian Legaspi, Vince de Jesus, Dennis Evangelista, Senedy Que, Njel de Mesa, Mac Alejandre, Cinemaone Head Ronald Arguelles, Megavision producer Madonna Sanchez and many more.
Established in 1952, the Famas awards is presented by the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences and has long been considered as one of the most prestigious honors in the Philippine film industry.
All Filipino-produced films that premiered in 2017 that had at least one commercial screening are qualified for this year’s awards.
An independent jury headed by multi-awarded writer Ricky Lee and composed of practitioners, critics and educators as members selected the nominees and will vote for the winners.
Megavision, in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Philippines, will produce the 66th Famas Awards on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the Theater at Solaire.
