“I’m honored and humbled by the feedback about the depth of my acting.” – Kokoy de Santos
Up close with Kokoy
Direk Elson Montalbo, Kokoy’s workshop director conducts post evaluation upon conclusion of the day’s event, “The good thing about you Kokoy is, there is truthfulness in your acting. You are trained well. You have good sense memory. Your acting is greatly compartmentalized,
“You tend to immediately be ‘in character’ even from the point of director’s instruction alone. You are able to internalize and the character of your role easily syncs in.”
Shifting discussion with Philippine Showbiz Republic, Direk Elson further shares his views about Kokoy,
“his depth in acting is transcending even beyond those actors that are his contemporaries and those up to ten or 15 years ahead of his age.”
Feedback from media friends
It is surprising to have noticed that even the most unfamiliar character, he rendered without hesitation and delivered every line with an attack of an audience,
“Kokoy is promising.
Rodel Ocampo, the incumbent secretary of the Philippine Movie Press Club on the other hand shares, “Sana magtuloy-tuloy na,
“Ang mase-say ko pa, kailangan lang niya ng isa pang magandang proyekto na tatak ulit, tumatak na s’ya sa ‘Tumbang Preso‘ e, kaso walang follow through.
“kUNG NAGKAROON SANA, MAIHAHANAY NA NATIN SIYA AS YOUNG CESAR MONTANO,
“Kasi, ‘yun ang peg nya. May pagkamaton na soft dahil sa ganda ng ngite at dimple.
Workshop classmate
Up and coming dramatic actor Miguel Villasis reveals,
“magaling siya. Nadala niya ako. I did not even feel the pressure that he is good. It is actually motivating and I owe it to him,
“Isa pa since sabi ni Direk Elson na, “I acted with truthfulness since I paid attention to my back story. Kaya naging magaan din para sa akin na makabatuhan ng eksena si Kokoy,
“Isa pa, Direk Elson constantly reminds me not to prepare for the scene and aside from applying that, modesty aside, napatunayan ko po sa exercise na ito yung sinasabi niya na –acting is common sense.”
Chinito Charm of the Philippine TV and global brand commercial model, Agassi Ching takes pride in saying,
“Galing si Kokoy! Nakakahanga,
“He has natural acting skill. Simple lang bato n’ya pero kapag dineliver na n’ya, astig! Ang gaan niyang ka-eksena,
“He is undebatably good. In our scene if you noticed, we may lack specificity of character and process and yet, we managed to deliver it in a manner that as if it was well practiced,
“If given a chance to work with him in a movie, I would grab it without a second thought.”
Kokoy says,
“MODESTY ASIDE, I’M HONORED AND HUMBLED BY THE FEEDBACK ABOUT THE DEPTH OF MY ACTING,
“Di ko nga po alam ‘yon e. Ang alam ko lang, sinesoryoso ko po lahat ng atake ko sa mga linya. I do my homework ‘ika nga.
“Pero sobrang solid po yung bonding namin dito sa workshop na ‘to, kasi nagkaroon po kami ng chance din na mailabas yung mga sarili naming idea in every scenario. Mas naging expressive kami,
“At nagpapasalamat ako kay Direk Elson at sa mga co-actors ko, kay Miguel, kay Aga. They are inspiring to work with. It is only now that I realized that our family bonding in Café Marla as social media endorsers does not end there. It has gone beyond, it has developed wonderful friendship and I will be very proud to be working with them in the future – that is something I am really looking forward to,
“Lalung thank you kay Ms. Rhen Escano. She is responsible for bringing me in in Café Marla family.
“Thank you so much, thank you for this wonderful experience. Ngayon na lang ako kasi ulit nakapag-workshop kaya ang sarap sa pakiramdam tapos yung mga ka-eksena, bago din. Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so very much.”
Kokoy ended our conversation in high spirit and hope that projects come along. He is also gratified by the feedback from Direk Elson and the entertainment industry writers – RK Villacorta and Rodel Fernando respectively.
Kokoy’s movie exposures (See related article: Deeper side of Kokoy de Santos)
Evidently, Kokoy de Santos made his mark in the movie and TV industry. He leads the role in ‘Tumbang Preso,’ an advocacy story on human trafficking, Kokoy was able to achieve an agonizing character brought about by their force labor and the hard-hearted work supervision. He is able to translate the reel to real.
His role in ‘Die Beautiful’ on the other hand showed Kokoy’s individuality and eccentricity. A superb portrayal of a boyfriend to Trisha (Paolo Ballesteros), Miko (Kokoy), who is working in a gay bar and later became Trisha’s love interest in exchange of material gain stimulated Trisha’s turning point to become wiser and stronger in her decisions. Kokoy’s truthful acting particularly when Miko cheated Trisha incited Paolo’s performance to a higher level.
‘Kid Kulafu,’ and ‘Bromance,’ are equally unique performances. It is his portrayal that is markedly different from himself.
