Ska is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was the precursor to rock steady and reggae.
Ska music is a fusion of Reggae Music, Caribbean and Calypso characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the off-beat.
Ska developed in Jamaica in the 1960s when Prince Buster, Clement “Coxsone” Dodd, and Duke Reid formed sound systems to play American rhythm and blues and then began recording their own songs.
In the early 1960s, ska was the dominant music genre of Jamaica and was popular with British mods.
In the Philippines SKA Music re-emerged in the 90’s with the band Put3ska (sharing the stage with Fransis M) a Filipino Ska band formed in 1993, with one hit song called “Manila Girl” and Performed at the first Ska music Fest in 2012.
In 2018 The Grandest and most diverse SKA Music Festival in the history of music in the country is organized also as the Grand Eyeball of Philippine Ska composed of Members and Aficionados.
In celebration of the first Anniversary celebration of Philippine Ska community on Noverber 17, 2018, the Most Awaited Ska Music Festival in the Philippines will happen on December 1, 2018 at the Mayflower Parking, Greenfield in Mandaluyong that includes international Ska bands: from Beat Bahnhof (Japan) and Red Stripes (Hongkong) sharing the stage with 13 local Ska bands like GoForTheGoatSKA! (Cavite) The Stolenshots (Albay) The Upbeats Ska (Albay) The Buzzer Beaters (Laguna) STEADYMOVINBEAT Mobster Manila Rocket Punch Pinkcow Philippines Dandimites Neighbors Skabeche ZCENTIDO Todo Pasa.
Founded by Mr Noel Salonga the Ska community was re-organized to create a diverse community of musicians and people who are loyal and who deeply appreciates Ska Music.
Boasting with 3,000+ members and still increasing — the organization is recognized locally and is making its mark globally
