
13th Gawad Tanglaw honors the best in Philippine media

Now on its 13th year, the Gawad Tanglaw or the Tagapuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gumagalaw, an academe-based award-giving body honors the best in Philippine media. It recognizes outstanding works and personalities in cinema, television, radio, print, and theater arts which contribute to the development of Philippine arts as a whole. The jury of Gawad Tanglaw is composed of members of the academe.
Recently, they have unveiled the winners for the Film and Television category. The awarding ceremonies for this year’s Gawad Tanglaw will take place on February 19.
ABS-CBN dominated the 13th Gawad Tanglaw s, winning several awards for its stars and the coveted TV Station of the Year prize. Kapamilya stars bagged several acting awards.Coco Martin won Best Performance by an Actor for “Ikaw Lamang,” tied with Piolo Pascual for the series “Hawak Kamay.”
Julia Montes won Best Performance by an Actress for “Ikaw Lamang” tied with Angel Locsin for the series “The Legal Wife.”
For film, Angelica Panganiban won the Best Actress trophy for her performance in the film “That Thing Called Tadhana” tied with superstar Nora Aunor for the film “Dementia.”
Star Cinema’s courtroom drama “The Trial”, bagged Best Supporting Actor for Richard Gomez and Best Supporting Actress for Gretchen Barretto.
This year’s film awardees are dominated by independent productions led by Jason Paul Laxamana’s internationally acclaimed drama, “Magkakabaung” which also won big at the recent Metro Manila Film Festival’s New Wave section.
The drama about a Pampanga coffinmaker will receive honors for Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actor for Allen Dizon.
