Ronnie Liang visits wake of 4 soldiers killed by Sulu cops
Last Wednesday, July 1, singer-actor and army reservist visited the wake of four soldiers who were killed by police in Jolo town, Sulu.
Ronnie condoled with soldiers’ grieving familes.
“When they told me about the killing of 4 soldiers, sobra akong nalungkot. Very heartbreaking. They were just doing their job and purpose, tapos biglang ganun na lang ang nangyari. I pray for their souls. I pray for their families. They were our heroes,” he said in a statement.
The singer has a high respect for men in uniform as he finished his training as army reservist and currently serving our country in beating COVID-19.
“I salute and honor them. We will never forget their names—Army Major Marvin Indammog, Army Captain Irwin Managuelod, Army Sergeant Jaime Velasco, and Army Corporal Abdal Asula. All of them died in the service of the country. They were good, dedicated men in uniform,” he added.
Liang also offers tribute song “Awit Kawal,” an 80s song. He said he finished recording the song and will release it soon on Spotify, iTunes, and other digital music platforms. He’s also finishing its music video that highlights soldiers’ service to country.
“I am dedicating the song to all men and women in uniform who continue to fight and serve our country, who endlessly sacrifice their lives in the name of peace and liberty.
“Awit Kawal is so touching. Kung sakaling nakakalimutan na ng mundo ang mga mabubuting nagagawa ng army, this song will remind us all na Philippine army is doing great job. Handang lumaban sa kahit anong laban.
“As army reservist, 2nd Lieutenant, kaisa ako sa panawagan na mabigyan ng hustisya ang apat na soldiers na pinatay ng Sulu cops. We should be helping and lifting each other.”

Recently, Liang received two awards from Philippine army—Meritorious Achievement Medal and Disaster Relief Rehabilitation Operation Ribbon for answering the call of duty for the fight against COVID-19.
His COVID-19 works include assistance for the stranded medical workers, relief goods distributions, 30-day repacking of relief goods for the affected families of this virus, checkpoints in Valenzuela City and NLEX Balintawak, and AFP Mobile Kitchen Kapwa Ko Sagot Ko, feeding 3000 to 4000 homeless and less fortunate Filipinos.
“Para sa bayan, patuloy tayong magsisilbi. Kasi ang pagiging army reservist, hindi lang naman title ‘yan. It’s an obligation. It’s a service. You have to put your whole self and heart,” he ended.
