“My Teacher” director Paul Soriano met the press December 5 at Winford Hotel in Manila for his Metro Manila Film Fest (MMFF) 2022 entry. According to Paul, Joey de Leon, lead star, taught him three important life lessons.

Live. The Presidential Adviser on Creative Communications said he’s living his best life now, acknowledging important people who bring positive energy.

“I’m living my best life now. From my perspective, I’m at my best place right now. We choose to live at peace.”

Love. Even the best filmmaker in the world has critics shared Soriano. He wants to be nice and send love to all the haters out there.

“To all the people that have criticized me and my wife, I wish them well. I respect it. That’s their opinion.”

Laugh. Toni Gonzaga’s husband expressed his gratitude to de Leon for accepting the role, saying the comedian brought joy, laughter, and light to “My Teacher” set.

“He’s Joey de Leon. He’s really funny. Parang… icon ‘yan. Parang… in my filmography as a young filmmaker, I can say that I worked with the Joey de Leon whom also we all know doesn’t do too many movies now, di ba?

“I think his last movie was sabi niya, decade ago, e, di ba? So I said this might be a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

During presscon sponsored by movie and concert producer Joed Serrano, Soriano also talked about his new job as presidential adviser on creative communications.

“I genuinely love and respect the First Family. I told them that I’m here to serve them.” He added, “It’s a huge challenge but I’m honored to take it.”

About his P1 salary, Soriano answered, “It’s never been about the money. I’m blessed. I’m comfortable with my private company. I don’t need to take a salary. The experience is priceless. What an experience for a filmmaker like me. That’s really all about.”

Soriano promised, “I wanna reach out to creative people in the creative industry. Let’s show the world how creative we are. Hopefully I can make a little difference.”

“My Teacher” stars Toni Gonzaga and Joey de Leon. It also stars Ronnie Alonte, Loisa Andalio, Carmi Martin, Rufa Mae Quinto, Kakai Bautista, Jackie Lou Blanco, Pauline Mendoza, and Kych Minemoto.
