IMG reminds public about political dynasty, highlights Duterte family
A group of concerned citizens is urging Filipino voters to choose candidates in the coming May 2025 Midterm elections that can be trusted, intelligent, pro-people and leaders who will prioritize the welfare of the nation and citizens.
Calling themselves as an independent minded group (IMG) which is aspiring to be the voice of the people, representing farmers, laborers, teachers, students, and workers said that the future of the nation is in the voters hands.
The IMG is also calling to shun Duterte allies in the coming May 2025 midterm elections, and the Duterte family whose political dynasty is led by former President Rodrigo Duterte. His daughter is Vice President Sara Duterte. His eldest son is a congressman while another son is mayor of Davao City.
“Electing these politicians will make the future of our country and the next generation of Filipinos are at great peril,” the IMG said.
At the height of former president Rodrigo Duterte’s alleged bloody campaign against illegal drugs, 17-year-old Kian delos Santos was mercilessly killed by Caloocan cops in August 2017.
Duterte denied link to the death of Kian, but defended his war against illegal drugs, stating that he did it to protect the innocent by stopping the drug menace.
“My mandate as President of the Republic was to protect the country and the Filipino people. Do not question my policies because I offer no apologies nor excuses. I did what I had to do,” he said.
On the other hand, Vice President Sara Duterte is facing potential plunder charges due to her alleged failure to justify the P112.5 million in confidential funds from the Department of Education (DepEd), which was reportedly encashed during the first three quarters of 2023, her first full year in office.
Duterte was also criticized when she resigned as DepEd Secretary, which ends an underwhelming tenure of half-baked initiatives and unfinished actions reflecting her lack of interest even in the efforts she started.
The Vice President then criticized Congress and described it as the country’s “most rotten institution.”
She singled out House Speaker Martin Romualdez, who is a first cousin of Marcos, and challenged him to have the funds of Congress audited.
The IMG said that the importance of voter education in producing a mature and informed electorate cannot be overstated.
Educating the voters is just as critical to the effective functioning of a democratic system as the electoral process itself. Voter education is a necessity that cannot be ignored.
