A star-studded Bb. Pilipinas 2015 coronation night: 3-timer contestant took home the crown; pre-pageant, crowd favorite Winwyn didn’t win
A former house helper, celebrities, models, returning candidates and pageant veterans – they were some of the 34 candidates who competed for the 5 coveted titles at this year’s Binibining Pilipinas pageant.
Pageant veteran and 3-time Bb. Pilipinas contestant Pia Wurtzbach was favored to win the much coveted crown as 2015 representative to the Miss Universe pageant. (As of press time there is still no place and venue announced for the prestigious beauty competition.)
The 25-year-old model and makeup artist from Cagayan de Oro City first joined in 2013 where she became 1st runner-up and she competed again in 2014 but failed to make it to Top 5.
Now the frustrating news for showbiz, netizens and beauty enthusiasts: Winwyn didn’t win.
Teresita Seen Marquez, candidate No. 34, a niece of former Miss International Melanie Marquez and the child of showbiz stars Joey Marquez and Alma Moreno, was a fan favorite right from the start. And she did prove to be a strong contender being beauty and brain personified.
For her hard work and perseverance she won several major special awards earlier in the show: Best in Talent, Best in Casual Wear, and Best in National Costume.
Viewers also agreed that Marquez got the most sensible question during the Q & A portion and gave the best answer. In part, she said Filipinos should learn the importance of dialogue in order to achieve peace.
Marquez’s lost was perhaps the biggest stunner of the grand coronation Sundaynight. Many expected her to be on Top 5.
This writer personally believes Wynwin deserves better recognition. If there’s any consolation, she has proven to be the best contestant who joined the pageant for the first time. Indeed, a refreshing sight/force to reckon with who came prepared, worked hard, and never relied on her celebrity status.
Aside from Wurtzbach, fellow pre-pageant Janicel Lubina took home the Bb. Pilipinas-International title.
Christi McGarry was named Bb. Pilipinas-Intercontinental, Rogelie Catacutan was Bb. Pilipinas Supranational, while Ann Lorraine Colis was Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism.
Hannah Sison was First Runner-Up while Kimverlyn Suiza was Second Runner-Up.
Hosting the event were TV/movie personalities Toni Gonzaga (wearing a gown by Michael Cinco) and Xian Lim.
Judges were: Kiefer Ravena, Bernd Schneider, Vice Ganda, Sarah Meier, Leni Robredo, Frederick Go, Gregorio Pio Catapang, Jr, Ambassador Gilles Garachon, Amb. Luis Lillo with DOJ Sec. Leila de Lima, who served as the Chairman of the Board of Judges.
