A Filipina had given us another reason to be proud as she gets a “Golden Buzzer” to advance to the semifinals of Asia’s Got Talent. 24-year-old Gerphil Geraldine Flores sang, “Speak Softly Love” from the classic film “Godfather,” she earned praises and impressed Asia’s Got Talent’s distinguished panel of judges including Grammy-winning composer David Foster, Melanie C, Indonesian rock icon Anggun and Taiwanese heartthrob Vaness Wu.

It was Foster who had given the Filipina the “golden buzzer” but she had gotten three “yes” from the other judges.

“You certainly did not disappoint anybody in this room. It was really a solid performance. And your pitch is great, and I hate people who sing out of tune. You sang really in tune. Good going,” Foster said.

Aside from Flores, other Filipinos who had been given the privileged to advance to the semifinals via the “golden buzzer” were the shadow play group El Gamma Penumbra (which was given by Anggun to the said group).

Flores said she was so pressured prior to her performance and all she had wanted was to represent the Philippines in Asia’s Got Talent. She said she had not expected that Foster would press the golden buzzer for her. A judge may only be allowed to press the golden buzzer once and Flores was so blessed and grateful that shewas the recipient of Foster’s privilege on the golden buzzer.

“I was totally shocked. I never expected it and I was actually speechless,” said Flores who hails from Paranaque City.

She shared it has been her dream to become a well-known recording artist and perform around the world, especially with her idols, pop-classical performer Josh Groban and opera singer Andrea Bocelli.
“I also dream of performing in opera houses like The Metropolitan in New York and La Scala in Milan, Italy,” she said.

Flores, who is currently in her 5th year as a student at the University of the Philippines, has been singing classical songs and Kundiman since she was 8.

Flores was accompanied by her mother when she auditioned in Singapore for the Asia’s Got Talent. Her mother was overjoyed and cried buckets of tears when she found out what her daughter has achieved.

Besides Flores and the group El Gamma Penubra, other Filipinos who had passed the auditions were the Velasco Brothers, Symmetry, Flexie Buddies, Neil Ray Garcia Llanes, Miss Tres and the 10-year-old Gwyneth Dorado.
