The ‘agimat’ in Revilla bros
No one can beat the power, charisma of Ramon Revilla Sr. But Bryan, Luigi, and Jolo deliver their own ‘agimat’ in “Virgo,” “Amats,” and “72 Hours.”
Imus Productions has produced some of the most remarkable films of Philippine cinema like “Nardong Putik,” and “Tonyong Bayawak.” This year, they bring “TRES,” a trilogy which follows the story of three individuals must go through desperate measures to hide their secrets, directed by Dondon Santos and Richard Somes.
It’s the comeback of Pinoy action film, trying to enter the market where love, romance films are dominating.
Bryan in Virgo
This cool guy has real promise. His character is totally different from his real life personality. He plays the role of an unforgiving cop living a double life directed by Richard Somes. Bald, rad Bryan not an action star in real life becomes believable as cop. The director masters the art of staging brutal scenes, making Bryan more believable as actor.
“I think hard work really pays off. Isa ‘yun sa pinaka-highlight ng films, eh, ‘yung fight namin ni Kiko Matos, that fight scene was shot for two days. Nagkatamaan kami dyan.”
Luigi in Amats
Dazed and confused. That’s Luigi’s character in Dondon Santos’ episode. He enters the world of drugs and gets seduced by Assunta de Rossi’s character. Assunta gives right amount of acting. The director shows the usual visual effects of a film about drugs. There are intense fights in clubs, and bars. Santos makes Luigi a real drug user, pictures what it’s like to live a life under the influence of drugs.
Jolo in 72 Hours
Directed by Santos, Jolo plays an anti-drug agent who falls in love with a cop (Rhian Ramos) who gets involved in the escape plan of a captured drug lord. The actor becomes the next Bong Revilla, acting, fighting like his dad. But he owns his style of delivering a romantic, hardcore cop. This episode seems to be the most expensive.
In an interview, the actor-politician says, “Pantay pantay ang treatment na ibinigay ng directors. Walang binigyan ng special attention.”
Not copying their lolo and dad, the Revilla bros deliver their own way of being an action star. The ‘agimat’ in them is timely, not over trying.
