Allen Dizon tries action genre for a change

Jul 26, 2017

After reaping awards and making raves for his performances in “Magkakabaung,” “Imbisibol” and “Iadya Mo Kami,” Allen Dizon tries the action genre for a change.

He stars in Brillante Mendoza’s “Amo,” a 12-part miniseries that premieres August 20 on TV 5.

“Para maiba naman, hindi ako magdra-drama. Puro action, puro habulan. First time kong gumawa ng action series. Tumatakbo, may hawak na baril, may car chase scenes, so iba talaga siya sa mga ginagawa ko at nakasanayan ko, so naroon ang challenge at ang sarap ng pakiramdam,” he pointed out.

According to Allen, this is his first time to be directed by internationally acclaimed and 2009 Cannes best director Brillante Mendoza.

“Nakatrabaho ko na siya as a producer pero hindi ko pa siya nakakatrabaho as a director, so nakaka-proud siyempre na madirek ng isang Brillante Mendoza,” he said.

Brillante Mendoza is the producer of “Twilight Dancers” under Centerstage Productions where Allen won best supporting actor trophies from Star Awards and Famas.

He is also the co-producer of “Imbisibol,” a Sinag Maynila entry where he was adjudged best actor.

I love his style. Binibigyan niya ng freedom ang artista to interpret his role. Kitang-kita mo rin ang brilyo at makatotohanan,” he said.

The crime miniseries tackles one of today’s most controversial topics-the Philippine government’s war on drugs.

However, it does not aim to glorify criminals but depict the real world about corruption in the police and their role in the drug menace in the country.

It is not also a big deal for Allen to support newcomer Vince Rillon who’s the main protagonist in the mini-series.

Being honored as an Outstanding Kapampangan by his Kabalens, he is not worried that his role as some police ‘scalawag’ would affect his image as a role model.

“Trabaho lang naman ito. Maiintindihan naman nila iyon,” he concluded.

“Amo” is yet another Brillante Mendoza’s dauntless television masterpiece which reflects TV 5’s strong commitment to provide quality differentiated entertainment content.

Joining the cast are Derek Ramsay, Vince Rillon, Felix Roco, Apollo Abraham, Archie Adamos, Mara Lopez, Alvin Anson, Baron Geisler and a lot more.
