Ang Larawan sings Best Picture; Siargao surfs with most technical awards
DECEMBER 27–In a simple ceremony held at the KIA Theatre in Cubao, Quezon City, the winners of the 43rd Metro Manila Film Festival were announced.
As predicted, world-class Pinay theater diva Joanna Ampil won the best actress award for her heartfelt portrayal of Candida Marasigan in Loy Arcenas’ “Larawan,” a movie adaptation of National Artist Nick Joaquin’s classic “Portrait of an Artist as Filipino.”
Derek Ramsay of “All of You” beat Jericho Rosales of “Siargao” in the best actor category.
The new Pambansang Beshie Edgar Allan Guzman won as best supporting actor for Julius Alfonso’s full-length directorial debut, “Deadma Walking.”
Jasmine Curtis-Smith took home the best supporting actress trophy for her subtle performance of a woman trying to survive a heartbreak in Paul Soriano’s “Siargao.”
“Larawan” was this year’s recipient of Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas award and adjudged as MMFF best picture.
The controversial FPJ Memorial award which was withdrawn from “Oro” last year went to Coco Martin’s mainstream directorial debut, “Ang Panday.”
