Another acting award for Aiko Melendez; ‘Prima Donnas’ gets more viewers

Dec 9, 2020

Despite portraying many antagonist roles, seasoned actress Aiko Melendez still gave younger kontrabidas a run for their money as she was hailed as Favorite Kontrabida at the 2020 LionhearTV RAWR Awards for her portrayal as Kendra in GMA’s afternoon drama Prima Donnas.

The Prima Donnas actress vested Favorite Kontrabida co-nominees Kyle Velino (Gameboys The Series); Yam Concepcion (Love Thy Woman); John Arcilla (FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano); Dimples Romana (Kadenang Ginto); Jodi Sta. Maria (Ang Iyo Ay Akin); Martin del Rosario (The Gift) and Sheryl Cruz (Magkaagaw).

The event was held last December 5 via a virtual awarding ceremony.

Overwhelmed, Aiko thanked her fans and supporters for the recognition.

She said, “Masayang masaya ako and winning an award during a pandemic is such a big blessing from the Lord. I am humbled.”

Aiko added that viewers can still learn lessons from Kendra despite her kontrabida attitude.

“Too much of everything is bad.”

Meanwhile the seasoned actress said her goodbyes to her Prima Donnas co-stars as the show concluded its lock-in taping.

In a post on Instagram, Aiko thanked the production staff and her co-stars in the show for making their second ‘lock-in taping’ easy.

“And we are the #primadonnas family!!!” Aiko proudly wrote in the caption of her Instagram post.

“As we come to the end of our lock-in taping, I would like to take this chance to thank the hardworking staff and crew of our show. Thank you!

“There were times we were at the edge of giving up because of the pressure of working in a pandemic situation.

“Lock-in taping is never easy, you are away from your family. But these people I am with in this picture, made this taping an environment full of fun and unity!

“I appreciate the fact that despite our busy schedule we still can manage to squeeze in our worship day to offer and lift it all up to The Lord.”

Aiko then thanked the whole production crew led by director Gina Alajar and senior program manager Redgynn Alba.

She continued, “Thank you to my momma, our director @ginalajar who took out the responsibility of being our 2nd mom on the set.”

“To my co actors! Thank you! Not sure if book 2 is still in the works, but let me assure you whether there is or wala, this relationship we built is something I will treasure for the rest of my life. I hate goodbyes. Only [see you] later!

“To ms @redgynn, thank you might be a simple word but it means a lot to me. Salamat for being the captain of the ship! For being the leader we needed on the set. Fun and easy to deal with! Mahal ka namin.

“As we end our lock-in taping now, Kendra will take a bow for now. Her evilness will end today but our viewers will still see us till next year!

“To sum it all you will all be missed. Until our next…… who knows.

“Kendra signing off today.”

The whole cast and crew followed strict safety protocols during the whole duration of the lock-in taping like wearing face masks and face shield throughout the day.

The cast are the only exception to not wearing face masks and face shields when the cameras are rolling and for picture taking.

Prima Donnas currently airs fresh episodes from Monday to Friday on GMA Afternoon Prime after Ika-6 na Utos.
