‘Belle Douleur’ not anti-male says lady producer
Sumabak na rin sa pagdidirehe ng pelikula ang Quantum Films producer na si Atty. Joji Alonso.
Bagamat nakagawa na siya ng short film na “Last Order” na naging kalahok at nanalo sa Pyongyang International Film Festival, ang “Belle Douleur” (Beautiful Pain) na entry sa 2019 Cinemalaya ang kanyang first full-length feature.
Kuwento niya, ito raw ay galing sa iskrip niya na isinumite sa Found Story workshop ng multi-awarded screenwriter na si Bing Lao.
“It’s a story I found in social media about this woman who fell in love with a younger man, but I could not limit myself to that aspect kasi masyadong manipis . Siyempre, Cinemalaya ito, you have to put layers in your story, so iyon ang sinubukan kong ipakita , which is iyong babae na maedad na siya pero coming of age rin siya,” saad niya.
French daw ang title ng pelikula dahil iyon ang nakikita niyang bagay sa naratibo.
Hindi rin daw niya ginawa ang pelikula dahil intensyon niyang ipasok ito sa mga international filmfests abroad.
“Number one, it is inspired by story of a French woman , iyong May-December love affair. The other part is the French language is very poetic. It gives a different ingredient to a woman, iyon siya. At ako kasi, when I’m out of the country, my favourite place is France,” pahayag niya.
Makabuluhan din daw ang mensahe ng pelikula tungkol sa papel ng isang babae sa isang lipunang nado-domina ng mga kalalakihan.
“Relevant iyong message niya na a lot of women whether Filipino or otherwise, are trapped or up to this day, continue to be trapped in their shells up to this time. There are a lot of dictates from society as to what women should be, what they are, how they should act or how they should become and sa akin, it’s time to put an stop to that,” esplika niya.
Gayunpaman, kahit tungkol daw ito sa empowered woman, hindi raw naman na-compromise ang male character sa pelikula.
“Not at all. May mga insights lang kasi nga di ba like, this is what society expects or says. In that aspect , doon siya umiikot pero hindi siya anti-male. Ang gwapo-gwapo ni Kit para maging anti-male,” hirit niya.
Nakaka-relate rin daw siya sa tema ng napapanahong pelikula.
“Very much. Ang kuwento kasi is about a clinical psychologist. I deal with a lot of clinical psychologist in the practice of my profession. It tackles the story of a daughter and I’m also a daughter. It tackles the story of a friend, I’m also a friend. Iyong May-December love affair, wala ,eh. hindi kasi ako mahilig sa bata at hindi siya mangyayari,” paliwanag niya.
Para sa kanya, perfect din daw sina Mylene Dizon at Kit Thompson sa papel ng lovers na nasangkot sa May-December love affair sa kanyang obra.
Ipinagkumpara rin niya ang mga hamon na nahaharap bilang isang film producer at isang director.
“Pareho silang mahirap, magkaiba lang ng perspective. Mahirap mag-produce kasi mahirap maghanap ng pera. Mahirap magdirek because you’re involved not only in the finances but you also have to be involved creatively, aesthetically at storywise and all, so it becomes more complex in that aspect,” sey niya.
Hindi rin daw niya masabi kung magtutuloy-tuloy na ang kanyang pagdidirek.
“Hindi ko iniisip iyon. Ito nga, hindi siya nakaplano. Nagkataon lang na may nakita akong magandang kuwento na sobrang na-in love ako sa story and I just wanted to do it,” pagtatapos niya.
Bukod kina Mylene at Kit, kasama rin sa cast sina Marx Topacio, Ruby Ruiz, Paolo Paraiso, Natileigh Sitoy, Hanna Ledesma, Sherry Lara, Olive Isidro, Marlon Rivera, Sarah Brackensiek at marami pang iba.
Iprinudyus ito nina Patricia Lumagui at Ferdinand Lapuz sa tulong ng Cinemalaya Foundation.
Mapapanood na ang pelikula simula August 2-11 sa Cultural Center of the Philippines at mga piling Ayala Mall at Vista Cinemas sa buong bansa.
