Charice and David Foster reunited after four years

International singing sensation Charice went to Singapore last month to attend an informal get-together with her mentor David Foster through the help of Marc Johnson, who manages their respective careers. But Charice never knew she would be given a big surprise. “The first thing he noticed about me was my weight loss and the way I look now. David told me he was happy that I’ve finally found my style, and that I looked good,” says Charice who’s now sporting a short haircut.
Even the issue about Charice’s gender preference wasn’t even discussed. Foster immediately hugged her upon seeing her, according to Charice. “I was touched by his gesture. It felt like David genuinely missed me.” It’s been four years since Charice and the composer/record producer lost their communication.
“David asked me what I was listening to at the moment, and I told him that I love Sam Smith…He asked me if I knew the song ‘Lay Me Down.’ When I said yes, David played it on his mobile phone, trying to figure out notes and chords.”
David and Charice had a lot of catching up to do. It was music that binds them together so it was also natural that the two jammed just like they used to do. “It was like the good old times. I was happy, singing my heart out, when out of nowhere, he asked me if I would like to perform the song on the show,” she said.
Foster was one of the judges for ‘Asia’s Got Talent,’ so he had introduced Charice to the producers of the show who invited her to perform on the said show. “They already had ideas on how the number would be like. Everything was happening so fast, and I was caught off-guard,” recalls Charice. “I didn’t even have clothes to wear. But luckily, they took care of everything.”
“I had felt some pressure because I didn’t know how fans would react with our reunion. “But when the music played, I felt at peace and confident. Come on, it’s David Foster! I trust him,” Charice quipped.
In the middle of her performance, the 23-year-old keg of dynamite noticed the teary-eyed crowd. Charice didn’t have to impress the audience with her high-octave powerful voice, she just simply poured out her heart. By the end of her performance, she was again given a standing ovation.
“It was mission accomplished…I didn’t need to hit high notes just to impress people. This is the kind of music that I want to do,”said Charice. “And to see David play the piano as I sang was priceless. I was so happy.”
