dc-skate-tour-launch-night_1Their love story started with a blind date that had no proper ending. Never in their wildest dreams did they ever think that exactly five years after they would end up at the altar. The wedding is happening anytime now. “That blind date was arranged by our mutual friend but it was just a brief encounter, almost forgettable,” recalled sexy star Diana Zubiri with a laugh, “He wasn’t my type so binasted ko agad.”

I was too young then and I wasn’t ready for a commitment at the time,” said Andrew John “Andy” Smith, a model/TV host from Adelaide, Australia.

Destiny however would always spring us with surprise. Two years later, their paths would cross again on the Internet. “I was surfing the Internet when I came upon Andy’s Instagram. It was full of his pictures in his ‘birthday suit!’ I wondered who this guy was because he looked familiar. I scrolled down and, true enough, it was Andy! I immediately sent him a message, ‘How are you?’ And he replied right away too. After that, we were able to communicate through text and that’s how our love story started.”

The two agreed to meet again and eventually became friends. Andy said he wasn’t ready yet to level up their friendship to the ‘next level.’ There was another gap of around three months. When they met again, Andy told Diana that he was ready to plunge into a serious relationship.

Diana (who is Rosemarie Joy Garcia in real life) continued, “But we were both on the rebounds then. I had just broken up with my non-showbiz boyfriend and Andy from his girlfriend. We were both recovering from our respective breakups. But we felt it was the right time for us to get together. We were not in a hurry because we had time to grow up together as we moved on from our failed relationships.

For Diana (who had just finished her Theater Arts degree from Miriam College this year), Andy was an answered prayer.

chisms-news90We were happy to have known each other for quite sometime and it’s good that we didn’t rush things. When Andy kept on saying he wasn’t ready, I prayed that he would soon be. Do you know what I like about him? He’s honest. Other guys would take advantage of you, they think I am weak. But Andy’s different.

What does Andy like about Diana?

She’s very generous,” said Andy, “a very loving person, very caring. It took me time to recognize her goodness, maybe because, as I said, I was too young then. She’s always there for me. Diana is right. It’s good that we didn’t rush things; it’s good that we first got to know each other better before we decided to get married. It’s the right time. For a while, I had been single, going out by myself. I turned at a corner and found the right one. I am in the right direction.

They have met each other’s families. They will be having an intimate garden wedding soon with their respective families as witness to their union.

My family will fly in from Australia,” said Andy who first came to the Philippines in 2007 and won in a bikini contest before he co-hosted a show on QTV with Andi Manzano. “I have one sibling from my mom and three half-siblings from my dad. All of them are coming.

The two plans to spend their honeymoon in Europe (France, Italy and Switzerland). In fact, they have already been traveling together.

Traveling has become part of our relationship. It brings us closer as we learn different cultures,” says Andy.

This is Diana Zubiri’s second wedding. Her first marriage was in November 2008 but her husband passed away due to liver cirrhosis in September 2010.

From Philippine Showbiz Republic (PSR), our best wishes to Diana Zubiri and Andy Smith!
