Dimples considers ‘The Greatest Love’ her biggest break in her entire career; shows excitement for upcoming film
Dimples Romana has proven herself as a very strong and able support to big stars.
She has done several roles in movies and television, most of which are best friends or confidantes to protagonists.
“Actually, nakapagpatayo na nga ako ng bahay sa pagiging “Pambansang Beshie.” Mas na-identify kasi sa mga ganoong roles,” she said.
In real life, Dimples is a close friend to Kapamilya actress Angel Locsin.
“Oo nga, actually, kapag nabro-broken hearted si Angel, ako ang unang nabro-broken hearted. Kasi, kami ni Angel, napakalalim na ng pinagsamahan namin. She is one those closest to me na nagku-confide ng problems niya sa akin, tulad ng mga roles na ginagampanan ko,” she declared.
According to Dimples, she will never get tired of doing ‘beshie’ in her acting assignments.
“Every role naman, I take it as a challenge. Comfortable rin naman ako sa ganoon kasi in real life, ganoon din naman ako sa friends ko. Loyal ako at nagbibigay ako ng advice kung hinihingi nila,” she pointed out.
Dimples’ biggest break was her role in “The Greatest Love” as Sylvia Sanchez’ resentful daughter in the said defunct Kapamilya tearjerker.
“Siguro, part na siya ng filmography ko at happy ako na nabigyan ako ng ganoon kabigat na role na para sa akin ay pinaka-challenging na nagawa ko sa entire career ko,” she declared.
Dimples stars in “Persons of Interest” where she tackles another demanding role that would test her mettle as an artist.
“I play Clara, ako iyong anak ni Tita Liza Lorena na may affair sa younger man played by Allen (Dizon). Na-food poison iyong mom ko so ako iyong nagpu-push na i-prosecute iyong blind cook na kasama niya na suspect sa kaso,” she described her role.
Dimples added, this is not her first time to do an indie movie.
“ I did “Chopsuey” in 2007 with Papa P. and Andrea del Rosario. Meron din akong ginawang “Still Life” for Direk Katski Flores sa Cinemalaya at “Altar” sa Cinemaone Originals with Zanjoe Marudo noong 2007.
“Noong 2008, nag-repeat ako sa sa Cinemalaya sa “Huling Pasada” under Paul Sta. Ana and Alvin Yapan tapos nag-concentrate ako sa TV. I did also “Homeless” for BG Productions sometime in 2014,” she recalled.
She revealed also that Gladys Reyes’ role in “Magkakabaung” where she won her first Gawad Urian as best supporting actress was originally offered to her.
“Dapat nakagawa na ako ng Kapampangan film kasi iyong “Magkakabaung” was first offered sa akin ,kaso, hindi hindi siya natuloy kasi may teleserye ako noon. Siya iyong part ni Gladys,” she disclosed.
Despite having passed on the role to another actress in the said movie, she said she has no regrets whatsoever.
“Hindi naman sa nanghihinayang. Kasi, naniniwala naman kasi ako na minsan kung hindi para sa iyo iyong project, hindi para sa iyo. Kumbaga, destiny din siya minsan, pero I’d love to that sana,” she quipped.
Being a Kapampangan herself, doing roles close to her roots is not at all that easy for her.
“Minsan, hindi rin siya ganoon kadali. Minsan, kapag mas lapit ka nga sa role, mas mahirap siyang i-tackle pero excited ako kasi dahil iba na naman siyang challenge sa akin,” she said.
At this point in her career, she does not aspire to do lead roles.
“Ako naman, kung dumating iyong time na magbida ako, of course, sobrang blessing siya. Pero iyong pagbibida is not something that I aspire,” she said.
What she wants is longevity or staying power in the business, she said.
“Peg ko kasi si Tito Eddie Garcia. Puwede siya sa bida o sa kontrabida. Tapos, hanggang ngayon, nariyan pa rin siya at gumagawa pa rin siya ng mga kontrabida roles ng ilang dekada na. Well respected siya kasi he fits all molds. Lahat ng molde, kaya niya. So, iyon ang gusto kong ma-achieve,” she concluded.
“Persons of Interest” stars multi-awarded and internationally acclaimed actor Allen Dizon in the lead role.
Other than Dimples, supporting cast includes Liza Lorena, Cecille Yumul, Nella Dizon and newest child wonder JJ Quilantang.
To be directed by award-winning director Ralston Jover, it is being produced by ATD Production with Dennis Evangelista, Romeo Lindain and real estate magnate Bobby Alvarez as executive producers.
