Empoy Marquez wants to establish his own identity as an actor
Empoy Marquez is pretty much aware that people say that he has a striking resemblance to famed comedian Rene Requiestas.
He says that being a Rene Requiestas look alike is both an advantage and a disadvantage.
“Ako kasi, gusto ko pong mapatunayan na I could do hindi lang slapstick, puwede rin po akong pa-deep. More than being a comedian, gusto ko pong makilala bilang isang mahusay na actor na hindi nakakahon sa isang genre. Lahat naman ng aktor, nangangarap na magkaroon ng sariling identity sa showbiz,” he points out.
Although, identified with comic roles, he believes that he could also excel in other genres.
“In a way, nakaka-limit siya dahil pag tinitingnan nila ako, natatawa na sila kaya nalilinya ako sa comedy.
According to Empoy, he credits TV5 for giving him the right breaks that landed him in starring roles.
Empoy also admits that he is a fan of Dolphy, Joey de Leon and Charlie Chaplin.
He also cites Alessandra de Rossi for the rapport that they have established while doing the movie “Kita Kita.”
“Nag-ja-jive kami ni Alex. Napaka-transparent niya. Wala po siyang pretensyon sa katawan. I think, nakatulong po iyon para maging magaan ang aming trabaho at siyempre po dahil magaling po siya at isang award-winning actress,” he explains.
In “Kita Kita” (I See You), Empoy plays the role of a physically unattractive guy who takes care of a blind woman (Alessandra) who falls for his charm.
A touchingly innovative film, it gives real romance in a new dimension by depicting characters primarily falling for someone’s endearing qualities instead of more worldly reasons.
The people behind Spring Films, spearheaded by Bb. Joyce Bernal, Erickson Raymundo and Mr. Piolo Pascual, the makers of the hit “Kimmy Dora” series and “Relaks, It’s Just Pag-ibig” understand this new calling proving the point by producing a movie that broke the norms and is likely to create a new trend in empowering the rom-com genre.
Featuring Alempoy (Alex-Empoy), the millennial love team, the movie is about finding love in unexpected time.
Directed by award-winning director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, the real romance hits cinemas starting today, July 19.
