Munoz won over Brazilian Jaime Villar Molina to advance in the semis with a score of 2-0. In the finals, we was able to beat fellow Filipino martial artists Eric Abesamis with a score of 8-0.

world masterLast year, Munoz also made it to the finals but took home a silver medal instead from the World Masters competition. He pursued a career in boxing and mixed martial arts, but he found his real passion in Brazilian martial arts called Jiu-jitsu.

In an interview, Munoz said, “Sobrang addicting ang Brazilian Jiu-jitsu because of its endless possibilities. You don’t have to become athletic to succeed. Just like what we have in this life, we may have lots of frustrations along the way, but you keep on moving forward, you keep on fighting. It’s quite difficult to explain in words why I got hooked into this kind of sport but I feel that it had saved my life.”

Munoz trains everyday for the said sport. “I had to pay dearly for my glory on this sport. Key thing is that you have to consistently train. Some athletes would train only if there’s a competition coming up but with a very physical sport such as Brazilian jiu-jitsu, I don’t think two months of preparation can cover all aspects of your game. That’s how tough it is. With Brazilian jiu-jitsu, there can never be shortcuts.”

Congratulations Muny! Philippine Showbiz Republic (PSR) team are proud of you! Mabuhay ka!
