From pandemic star to drama princess: Jhassy shines in ‘Unspoken Letters’
In 2021, Jhassy Busran took home the Best Performance (Short Film) award from International Film Festival Manhattan-New York and Best Child Actress award from Gully International Film Festival in India for her indie movie “Pugon.”
After the success of the said film, Busran accepted a challenging role in “Unspoken Letters” with Gladys Reyes, Glydel Mercado, and Tonton Gutierrez. She described this movie as “inspirational.”
In the movie, Busran portrays the character of Felipa who lives with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). At 17, Felipa functions at the level of a seven-year-old child.
“Naging okay naman ang work ko and very thankful ako sa directors na pinagkatiwalaan nila ako sa ganitong sensitive na role. Nag-research ang buong team tungkol sa condition ng role ko — na hindi kami makaka-offend. I also did my own research para ma-portray ko nang maayos ang role ko,” she shared.
The drama princess also shared her own interpretation of the movie title: “Nung nabasa ko ‘yung script, dun ko na-realize na mayroon tayong mga bagay na kinikimkim lang natin sa sarili natin at hindi natin sinasabi sa mga taong mahal natin kaya nagkakaroon ng hindi pagkakaunawaan, sama ng loob. Ang laki na nung magiging pain na hawak mo hanggang sa pagtanda mo dahil sa mga kinikimkim mo. Mas okay na sinasabi natin lahat kung ano ang nararamdaman natin.”
Meanwhile, the movie held a successful premiere night last November 30 at the Trinoma Cinema in Quezon City.
The lead star showcased her acting power and proved her worth as an actress. She did not disappoint her fans as she offered them a fresh, honest performance.
This is Busran’s fourth full-length movie since she started in showbiz in 2021. Previously, she appeared in Genius Teens – Chapters 1 and 2, Caught in the Act, and Home I Found In You.
“Unspoken Letters” opens December 13 in cinemas.
