Gina Alajar admits she’s a fan of whodunits
MULTI-AWARDED actress Gina Alajar is set to add luster in this year’s Cinemalaya filmfest.
She stars in Sonny Calvento’s suspense thriller “Ang Nabubulok,” an entry to the 13th edition of the prestigious Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.
She’s up for another challenge as she plays an important role in a genre close to her heart: whodunits.
“I was the one who started the rumors in the community about this missing person who happens to be my cousin. Suspetsosa ako.
“I suspect right away na may nangyari sa kanya, so everybody is trying to figure out what happened. The suspect was the husband played by Hollywood actor Billy (Ray Gallion). When I asked him, he said that he doesn’t know where she is or maybe nagpunta lang sa Maynila. It’s actually based on a true-to-life story,” she shared in an interview.
She admitted though, that it was her interest in the story that made her accept her role in the movie.
“I have the respect of the father of my director, Tony Calvento. I worked with him in “Calvento Files” sa TV series . The movie is a suspense thriller and when it comes to crime stories and suspense thrillers, Calvento is the name,” she said.
According to Gina, she is also a fan of crime and investigative dramas and suspense thrillers.
“I love whodunit stories . When I read books or watch TV or movies, tinutukan ko talaga siya. Lagi akong looking forward kung ano ang mga susunod na mangyayari o mga eksena. Noong ginawa ko ito, I really asked our director what really happened sa mga characters in real life,” she pointed out.
As a respected TV director herself, who had the chance to be helmed by National Artists Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal, she says she does not meddle with her directors even new-breed ones when it comes to the execution of their craft.
“Nirerespeto ko sila. So far, I have good experiences in working with them. Of course,there are hitches sometimes. In the case of Sonny (Calvento), I am just very blessed because he’s so professional and he takes good care of his actors and nobody complains,” she said. “I’m happy with the team and also with the work that we have done,” she added.
On the personal side, she says that she’s the type of person who doesn’t get affected by rumor unless it’s becomes damaging and gets out of hand.
“Kung may basehan at kailangang ipaglaban mo o kamag-anak mo na related sa iyo ang involved. Pero, kung hindi naman ako directly involved, dedma na lang pero but as I have said na mahal mo na ang sangkot, nagre-react ako paminsan-minsan,” she concluded.
The story of “Nabubulok” is based on the tragedy that happened to the officemate of its director, Sonny Calvento.
