Goodbye wholesome roles, hello meaty roles
Going sexy in “Sin Island” is one big career move for Xian Lim.
Although he has a well-built physique, he admitted though, that at first, he felt uncomfortable in doing the sex and intimate scenes with his leading ladies in the movie while on the set.
“Definitely at first, ang dami ko talagang tanong kina John C. (movie’s scriptwriter), to all the creatives, I had a lot of questions. It’s very new to me, para sa akin coming from a whole different genre like romcoms, love stories.
“This time around, I mean, after all the questions na pagkadating ko sa set, I’m kinda felt uneasy at first but working with Direk Gino and everyone involved in the set, very hands-on kasi sila so, I think, doon pa lang nawala na ang kaba ko sa set, lalo na sa mga eksenang hindi ko masyadong gamay gawin. They were there. Everyone was present,so parang pag may mga tanong kami, lalo na kaming tatlo na hindi pa namin kilala ang style nang isa’t-isa, nandoon naman si Direk Gino to guide us,” he said.
He considers his role as David his first mature role.
“Yes. Again, hindi ko rin masyadong ma-gets iyong ‘mature’. Yes, maybe, it’s my first mature role, in terms of the genre and the story. It’s just a different way of handling the story and the different characters naman,” he pointed out.
He said that he accepted the role because he’s at the point in his life where he wants to try out other genres.
“Nandoon pa rin ako sa punto kung masosorpresa ba ako. Kung ano nga ba ang kaya kong gawin at kung ano iyong kaya kong ibigay,” he declared.
He’s also open to doing edgier roles in the future.
“Actually, I want to try other things to be able to push my capabilities as an actor and to try to tackle different roles,” he said.
“It really depends naman on the story, kung ano ang mangyayari. If it’s gonna help me grow as an actor. If it’s gonna offer me more opportunities and if it’s gonna make me a better person, go tayo diyan. Artista kami. I’m an actor . I wanna do as many roles as possible,” he added.
He’s also proud to play David, a character significantly more mature than the wholesome roles he has tackled in the past.
He also rectified that “Xian’s Island” is not the original title of his scorching drama although he got tickled by the idea.
“At first nga, sabi ko noong unang workshop namin, it was first with Coleen and then with Nathalie, iba, eh. Si Coleen, I told her. At first, ang tingin ko kay Coleen, medyo hard to approach siya, hindi siya game but she’s actually game to joke around and she’s just a laid back person. So, parang medyo sa workshop, na-destroy na rin iyong barriers,”he shared.
“Iyong kay Nat naman, at first, hindi ko alam kung paano lulugar kay Nat kasi hindi ko alam kung saan ako pupunta. She had all these ideas, she had all these things that goes on in her head and I think sa workshop, na-break naman iyong wall,” he added.
Although he got excited with his love sequences with his leading ladies, he denied that he got carried away in some of the scenes.
“Ang general kasi noong word na ‘turn on.’ Sige, I’ll try to go more specific. Kung naging excited ba ako sa mga ginawa naming love scene. I think ,we have to be in a way, excited. You have to be excited doon sa ginagawa mo kung hindi mukha kayong halaman na walang buhay,” he elucidated.
He also emphasized that going sexy in “Sin Island” does not necessarily mean that he’s going solo and breaking away from his teamup with Kim.
He also insisted that it had nothing to do with his transfer from Star Magic to Viva as a talent.
“Walang ganoon. It’s just a new chapter in my life, iyong new management. I’m still with ABS-CBN, it’s just the management na nagbago,” he clarified.
Despite his career move, he also believes that Kimxi is still there to stay.
“Wala naman kasi sa amin iyon ni Kim. We’re just waiting ng project. Artista lang po kami at naghihintay lang naman kami na mabigyan ng project ni Kim. Changing management doesn’t lessen naman the support people are giving us,” he pointed out.
“Even when we were in the same camp, hindi rin naman kami nagkakatrabaho, so it really doesn’t make any difference. Magkaroon kami ng trabaho o wala, it doesn’t really matter with the change in management,” he concluded.
