Iya Villania, Champ Lui Pio and other personalities gear up for Cebu Pacific’s Juan for Fun Backpacker Challenge
Five certified adventure seekers are all set to join the Cebu Pacific Juan for Fun Backpacker Challenge, signing up as this year’s Adventure Coaches. TV host and actress Iya Villania, musician Champ Lui Pio, YouTube star Bogart the Explorer, travel writer Jude Bacalso, and host and DJ Joyce Pring, have signed up as mentors for the five student teams going on an all-expenses-paid trip across Cebu Pacific’s extensive network.
The adventure coaches will also stay in touch and cheer for their respective teams through social media during the duration of the backpacker challenge.
Travel tips from the pros
The Adventure Coaches shared their excitement at being part of the Juan for Fun teams’ adventures, sharing essential tips and pointers to make the experience even more unforgettable.
Returning as an adventure coach for the second year, Bogart the Explorer shared that the competition is a great way for the participating students to excel and find out what they are capable of.
“They also get the opportunity to learn something about the places they visit, enabling them to view that destination from a unique perspective,” he said.
Another returning adventure coach is Jude Bacalso, who shared that she found being a mentor intimidating at first. “You are never too sure that you are able to guide the teams to the best of your ability,” said Jude. “By the end of the competition, it became clear that learning is a two way street: I was reminded that letting loose and enjoying the moment is just as important as winning. It really is the journey, not the destination.”
For singer, TV host and radio DJ Joyce Pring, being a part of Juan for Fun is a great way to spread positivity and the joys of adventure. “I always aim to be an ambassador of good vibes and creative growth, and being a part of the Juan for Fun challenge will allow me to do just that,” she shared. “I feel like I’ll be a very competitive coach, but at the end of the day, I just want everyone to have fun and experience what it’s like to travel to someplace new.”
Another self-confessed competitive coach is singer, producer and restaurant owner Champ Lui Pio, who believes that winning is all about learning how to work as a team while having a great time. “I really like how the Cebu Pacific Juan for Fun challenge mixes fun with adventure,” said Champ. “I look forward to meeting and bonding with the challenge participants, and I really want them to enjoy this experience because traveling, in my opinion, is food for the soul.”
Completing this year’s roster of Adventure Coaches is TV personality and avid traveler Iya Villania-Arellano. “I joined Juan for Fun as a mentor because I think it would be great to be a part of other people’s adventures, share my personal experiences, and help them make the most of their journey,” she shared. “I want my team to challenge themselves by preparing to make some sacrifices and conquering a few fears, all while having fun of course!”
An adventure like no other.
The Juan for Fun Backpacker Challenge 2015 is open to all university and college students who have an insatiable thirst for adventure and a knack for budget travel. To qualify, they must form a team of three members and upload a video that answers the question “What makes you the team to beat in this year’s Juan for Fun?” to www.juanforfun.com on or before May 2, 2015.
Teams will only find out their destinations when the challenge kicks off on June 23, and they have until July 1 to have as many fun experiences and exciting discoveries within a given travel allowance. To earn extra points and additional prizes, they must also complete the special fun challenges prepared by Cebu Pacific.
The trio with the most number of fun activities out of their given budget, and the highest standing in the special challenges, will win the competition and score awesome prizes. This year’s Juan for Fun Ultimate Backpackers will receive 12 round-trip tickets to any Cebu Pacific international or domestic destination of their choice, plus other exciting travel gear.
