Jake Cuenca falls in love with ‘Requited’

Jul 27, 2017

Just like any other celebrity, Jake Cuenca has been the subject of bashers lately because of his expression of dismay over the choice of Philippine publications particularly fashion magazines, on who to feature.

His statement was taken out of context from by people who just can’t seem to find the time to be nice online.

His bashers concluded that he must be bitter because he was not included in Yes! 100 Most Beautiful Stars.

But even in the midst of tweets and posts that attack him, the award-winning actor chooses to ignore his detractors and rise above those nasty comments.

“I’d rather not talk about it. Tapos na iyon,” he said. “Ang akin lang naman, nagbigay lang ako ng opinion ko about people who can actually influence fashion. Every one naman is entitled to his own opinion and that’s my opinion,” he added.

He even clarified that he is not referring to any magazine when he made the statement in general.

He also does not want to make ‘patol’ over a troll’s comment that he is already ‘laos’ or a has-been actor.

“I want to talk about positive things. If I react, will it make me a better person,” he pointed out.

Jake stars in Nerissa Picadizo’s “Requited,” an official entry to the 2017 Cinemalaya filmfest, which he coproduced.

“It’s actually a passion project. Sobrang mahal ko iyong script at noong una ko siyang nabasa, tinanong ko kung nangangailangan ba sila ng isa pang producer. It’s a new territory for me to co-produce and it feels good to be part of the project,” he shared.

Aside from being challenging, he considers his role as Matt as his personal favorite.

“May Parkinson’s disease ako rito. Sa situwasyon ko, ako iyong nangangailangan ng babae sa isang relationship rather than iyong babae ang naghahanap sa akin. Noong nabasa ko nga ang iyong iskrip, sobrang na-in love ako. It’s nice also to portray human beings na natural lang. Iyong raw, hindi loud o exags, na iba siyempre kapag sa TV, so it’s a refreshing change,” he declared.

“Requited” ang title niya kasi there’s a lot of unfinished business and blurred lines sa relationship,” he explained.

He has biking scenes in the movie but these are only incidental to his character.

“Hilig lang niyang mag-bike pero mas nakapokus iyong story sa kanyang journey because the movie itself is a journey,” he told to PSR.

He admitted that being a triathlete helped him in the physical requirements of his role.

“Naroon na iyong conditioned ka physically, tapos as a biker, may mga distinct memory iyong mga lugar na pupuntahan mo from Manila to Pinatubo. Journey din siya noong character ko and the movie is relatable because it’s about moving on,” he said.

Jake won best actor for his acclaimed performance in Diane Ventura’s “Mulat” in the 2014 Manhattan International Film Festival in New York and in the 2016 World Cinema Festival in Brazil.

He has last made an impression in Cinemalaya in the controversial “Nuwebe,” a movie about rape and incest by Joseph Israel Laban in 2013.

In “Requited,” he is paired off with 1st Tofarm film festival best supporting actress Anna Luna of “Paglipay.”
