JC Santos, an occasional poet by heart
In his movies, JC Santos seamlessly transforms into his characters on screen.
In his latest role in Jason Paul Laxamana’s “100 Tula Para kay Stella,” he can certainly relate to Fidel on some level.
“Actually, galing ako sa Shakespeare classics dahil teatro ang background ko. Nakaka-relate ako nang sobra at nagge-gets ko kung paano siya i-deliver. Kung paano siya bibigyan ng puso. Acting pa rin naman siya, in a way. Pero, hindi ako sumusulat ng tula,” he pointed out.
The actor is all agog about his PPP entry.
“First leading role ko siya sa mainstream. Ako si Fidel. Meron siyang speech defect. Hanggang 3 or 4 lines lang siya in a sentence. Pag lumampas na sa three words, nag-i-stutter na siya, uulitin na niya ang sinasabi niya. Tapos, sumulat siya ng tula para kay Stella, kasi torpe siya. Tapos, naging best friend niya iyong crush niya. So the question is, sasabihin niya ba ito sa crush niya at kung sasabihin niya, paano niya ito sasabihin?,” he said.
In real life, he does not resort to writing or composing poems in courting a girl.
“Usually, old school ako. Nanliligaw ako with flowers, but never akong naging poetic. Minsan , nagbibigay ako ng lines in a play o gagawa ng monologue,” he explained.
He says the movie is like taking a trip down memory lane.
“It’s a sound trip kasi ito iyong time noong 2006 na panahon na si Rico Blanco ang Rivermaya. Kakanta si Bela rito. Kakanta rin ako like iyong “Balisong” at “241,” he said.
He is also happy that he is given the opportunity to showcase his talent in singing in the movie.
“Kumakanta naman talaga ako kasi nagtrabaho ako sa Disney at sa Universal (Studios). Naging work ko siya roon. Nakakaintindi ako pero hindi ako magaling, marunong lang. Kumakanta naman talaga si Bela. Part din ng karakter ko na kapag kumakanta , nai-express niya ang gusto niyang sabihin at hindi siya nag-i-stutter,” he elucidated.
“100 Tula Para kay Stella” is also a realization of his dream to work with Bela Padilla.
“Matagal ko na siyang gustong makatrabaho. I think true story din iyong character niya about this girl na may black tattoo at black lipstick. Si Bela naman, hindi rin siya mahirap katrabaho. Nakapakadali niyang katrabaho. Napakatalino pa,” he concluded.
JC is also set to be paired off with Ryza Cenon in Sigrid Andrea Bernardo’s “Mr. and Mrs. Cruz” for Viva Films and Idea First Company.
He’s also in the cast of the MMFF movie “Meant to Beh” starring Vic Sotto and Dawn Zulueta for Octoarts Films.
He’s also scheduled to do “Victims of Love,” a new teleserye under Dreamscape Entertainment with Julia Montes and Paulo Avelino in the cast.
An entry to the first Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, “100 Tula Para kay Stella” also stars Bela Padilla, Arvic James Tan, J. C. Parker, Ana Abad Santos, Dennis Padilla, Christopher Roxas, Prince Stefan, Carl Guevara, Maricel Morales and a lot more.
