Na-interview ng Philippine Showbiz Republic (PSR) si James Wright sa pocket presscon last February 12 sa Annabel Lee Café , Timog Avenue, Quezon City, for the promotion of his third single from his self-titled debut album under GMA Records, ang ‘Ikaw ‘Yon’. Naroon din ang kanyang manager sa E-Talent Entertainment na si Annabelle Regalado at ang PR Manager na si Jemuel Salterio. Dumalo rin ang director niya sa music video ni James na si Jeffrey Hidalgo.
Naging finalist nga si James sa reality show na ‘Anak Ko ‘Yan’ hosted by Jennylyn Mercado. Hindi man siya pinalad na maging grand winner, nagpapasalamat pa rin siya dahil binigyan pa rin siya ng pagkakataong mabahagi ang kanyang talent. Unti-unti ay nakikilala na rin siya dahil ang kanyang mga kanta ay ginagamit sa mga teleserye ng Kapuso network.
“Although I finished only in the Top 5 of ‘Anak Ko ‘Yan’, sabi ng South Border song there’s always a rainbow after the rain. Not finishing first or second or third, parang that was the rain.
“But with the help of Vehnee Saturno, E-Talent, GMA Records, and GMA Network, the blessing of ‘Sana’y Ikaw’ came out and it was chosen as a theme song and I made my mark in the industry.
“Parang tinatanong nila, ‘Who is this James Wright?’ Akala nila noong una si Christian Bautista ang kumanta ng theme song, so nagulat sila na, ‘foreigner pala ito at marunong kumanta ng Tagalog at marunong magsalita ng Tagalog.’
“The second blessing came out with ‘Kung Hindi Ikaw’. I didn’t expect it to be a hit teleserye theme song. I guess because of ‘Kung Hindi Ikaw’, it gave me an opportunity to pursue an acting role when they gave me this little wedding singer part at the end of ‘My Destiny’.
“So they found out who James Wright was. It was the final day of ‘My Destiny’ and I was trending on Twitter, reaching almost the top position.
Pagkatapos nito ay naging bahagi na raw siya ng teleserye kung saan naging kontrabida siya.
Kung tinatawag siyang ‘GMA’s Prince of Teleserye Theme Songs’, ngayon ay Pop Heartthrob na.
“The management, GMA and E-Talent, together with Vehnee Saturno, we came into an agreement na parang, yes, I can do crooning, I can do ballads, I can sing Michael Bublé and Frank Sinatra, but it’s 2015 so let’s try something new.
“So this is the Pop Heartthrob era of James Wright. Siyempre yung singing Michael Bublé and crooning will aways be in my heart kasi that’s my forte. Pero it’s time for the people to see a new James Wright.”
Positibo ang singer na magiging maganda pa ang takbo ng kanyang career at pursigido siyang mangyayari ito.
“I just want to be motivated and I have a lot of goals that I want to achieve and sana my new album, along with the help of GMA, E-Talent, and Vehnee Saturno will be the reason I can hold my solo concert. Maybe I can invite my idols, Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano, to my concert,” dagdag pa niya.
Pero ang ultimate idol niya ay si Michael Buble na kamakailan lang ay nag-concert sa Pilipinas. Sadya raw niyang hindi pinanood ang konsyerto dahil ayaw raw niyang manggaya ng istilo ng iba. Gusto niyang mas makilala on his own.
