Lav Diaz’s Ang Babaeng Humayo to be part of 41st Toronto International Film Festival

It’s the place to be whether you’re a cinephile or just love to see great stars.

Since Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) started, it made name and wave in the film industry, recognizing and acknowledging it as the most prestigious, biggest and brightest event on whole world.

 

Time Magazine expressed that TIFF “grown from its place as the most influential fall film festival to the most influential film festival.”

The TIFF is the most attended event as same spotlight with Cannes, where high-profile stars, bold-beyond the surface stories, great screenwriters and directors is showcased.

This year, TIFF is a showcase of the latest bold, exciting, and moving works from masters of contemporary cinema from around the world.

And as the Filipino creativity continue to prove, from being in the list of different International Film Festivals up to winning trophies that introduced the Filipino’s artsy in terms of filming and storytelling, this year marks, celebrates again as Ang Babaeng Humayo or The Woman Who Left has chosen for the 41st TIFF, Wavelengths section.

Under the direction of great Lav Diaz, who is known for his long-no cut films, and produced by Sine Olivia and Cinema One Originals, the film Ang Babaeng Humayo as explained by Diaz is a concept of life is not truly understand by anyone and that more often people abide and succumb to life’s randomness.

Diaz is a multi-awarded director, winning several international awards. Great known for his film works including Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan and Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis.

TIFF described the film as a drama which examines economic disparity in modern Filipino
society through the eyes of a woman released from prison 30 years after being framed and
wrongly convicted.

The film starred Ms. Charo Santos as the leading actress, who has being praised by netizens for her big comeback in big screen. The film was shot in Mindoro, hometown of Santos. She described the film as a story of forgiveness, of transcendence.

Together with Santos are John Lloyd Cruz, Michael de Mesa, Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino, Nonie Buencamino, Marj Lorico, Mayen Estanero, Romelyn Sale, Lao Rodriguez, Jean Judith Javier, Mae Paner, and Kakai Bautista.

Ang Babaeng Humayo was inspired from the book God Sees the Truth, But Waits by Leo Tolstoy.

The screenings scheduled every September. TIFF 2016 set to happen this coming September 8-18.
