Maginhawa to host bigger Quezon City Food Festival

After the roaring success of the Quezon City Food Festival last year, Maginhawa Street is once again set to host a bigger and more exciting fete this 2015.

Dubbed as “Maginhawang Pasko Food & Art Hub Festival,” this year’s celebration is packed with a broader array of themes that will surely tickle the interests of various enthusiasts: from foodies, artists, musicians, fashion and design aficionados.

Just as last year, Maginhawa’s hole-in-the wall restaurants and specialty food joints will be highlighted in the event. It aims to establish the Maginhawa food strip as a rising food tourism destination in Quezon City. Over 100 restaurants along Maginhawa and nearby streets will once again offer their best and delectably diverse menu to customers, guests and spectators expected to dine and celebrate with their family and friends.

According to Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte who is present during the presscon of ‘Maginhawang Pasko’ held at Provenciano Restaurant, today December 4, 2015 “The success of last year’s Quezon City Festival is totally unprecedented. Tens of thousands came and truth be told, we were not prepared for the sheer number of people who celebrated with us. The response was certainly overwhelming. More than that, what we saw was an opportunity to further support the dedicated community of Maginhawa and likewise open doors for the young entrepreneurs of Quezon City. Hence, the ‘Maginhawang Pasko’ festival was born.

On December 12, 2015 from 9 am to 12 MN, Maginhawa Street will be closed to traffic to allow for tens of thousands once more to enjoy the great food, vibrant music, exciting games and this year— a unique Christmas shopping experience for all.
So yes, we are making it bigger, better and more fun for everyone. With your help and support we can make this one of the most exciting festivals to attend in Metro Manila.”

But what sets this year’s Quezon City Festival different from last year is the inclusion of equally interesting shops and activities that will surely invigorate the Christmas atmosphere in the are. Maginhawa resident establishments will be part of a Christmas Decoration Contest where the best ornamented establishments can win exciting prizes. The competition will surely light up the entire stretch of Maginhawa to make the occasion even more fun and festive.

Concessionaires’ booths will also be as diverse. Aside from the food stalls, Maginhawa will also offer unique and interesting fashion, music, arts, and craft products. The 320 participating exhibitors pledge to offer special Christmas packages and promos at very affordable prices.

The day will also be filled with interesting activities open for everyone. A short program will be held in the morning to be followed by a walk thru of some segments of Maginhawa by city government officials and guests.

There will be two sets of program along Maginhawa: one at the UP Village area and another at Malingap Street, which is a rising food stip itself. The length of Maginhawa Street, from Masaya St. to V. Luna Avenue, will be closed during the event.

In the afternoon, there will be live performances by up and coming bands and performers by up and coming bands and performers to be filled in between by fun events such as Bingo games and karaoke contests. A cosplay competition will also be in place and will be open for anyone who wishes to display his/her most striking and creative costumes. The community folks from 38 barangays of District IV, Quezon City can also participate in the “Maginhawa Na, Malinis Pa” contest. Four best designed trash bins will be awarded cash prizes.

This event is organized by the Local government of Quezon City led by the Office of Mayor Herbert Bautista, Office of Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte and the Tourism Department, in cooperation with the District Office of Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr.
