Maternal bonds, pleasing aesthetics dominate Art Blast 2015

For the fifth consecutive year, Artasia Gallery is once again hosting the latest installment of Art Blast, an exhibit organized by renowned Filipino painter and graphic designer Salvador “Buds” Convocar every year to showcase works from Filipino contemporary art’s established and emerging artists.
“When we launched the first Art Blast in 2010, we envisioned it as platform that will provide Filipino artists, whether established or just starting, with the exposure that they need and the exposure that their artworks deserve,” Convocar said.
“It doesn’t really matter if an artist is established or is still emerging. What we look at is the maturity of their art, and I personally believe that’s all that matters really,” he added.
Art pieces from a total of 64 artists from all over the country will be displayed at the exhibit, including works by prominent artists including Ross Capili, Lito Ballaran, Migs Villanueva, Salvador Ching, Celso Pepito.
“From a little over 40 participants in 2010, this year we have more than 60 artists participating, and we expect this number to continue going up in the next few years,” Convocar said. “We are also seeing a surge in the number of collectors visiting the exhibit.”
“Hopefully that would also spell improvements in the quality of artwork that we feature.”
