Meet the IT Girls of Horror and their thoughts of being debutante
In the Philippines, just like in any other countries, a debut is a much celebrated event.
It is the time when parents throw a party to announce their daughter’s sort of entrance into the adult world and their readiness to be wooed by eligible bachelors.
Some celebrate it with the customary waltz or cotillion, complete with an entourage of 18 roses, 18 candles, 18 treasures, and everything else there could be 18 of – from butterflies to fairies.
But through the years, the practice has evolved. Some choose to spend it with the charity of their choice or to go on a grand vacation or simply celebrate it in some non-traditional ways.
Now a new horror film entitled “The Debutantes” that promises to be a game-changer in its genre is set to give audiences their biggest scare come October 4.
It stars the most promising and talented stars of their generation: Sue Ramirez, Miles Ocampo, Chanel Morales, Michelle Vito and Jane de Leon, collectively known as the new IT girls of horror.
Sue catapulted to fame in such TV series like “Mula sa Puso,” “Angelito: Ang Batang Ama,” “Angelito: Ang Bagong Yugto,” “Annaliza,” “Pangako sa Iyo” and “Dolce Amore.” Last year, she was also named an Honorary Tourism Ambassador to Korea and was part of the reality show “I Can Do That” in ABS-CBN. Currently, she’s in the cast of the toprating Kapamilya fantaserye “La Luna Sangre.” Her acting outings include “Aswang,” “Just The Way You Are,” “A Second Chance,” among others.
Miles is a product of the kiddie gag show, “Goin’ Bulilit.” Aside from her numerous TV series, she also appeared in a number of movies like “I’ve Fallen for You,” “A Very Special Love,” “You Changed my Life,” “BFF: Best Friends Forever” and “Paano Na Kaya?”
Chanel is the latest addition to the roster of Regal’s Millenial Babies. A product of Artista Academy, she starred in various projects in TV 5 including “Wattpad Presents.”
Michelle initially made her mark as a “kontrabida” in “Aryana,” a fantaserye topbilled by Megan Young.
For her part, Jane was a multi-talented entertainer when she entered showbiz. She was in the fantasy series “Wansapanataym” last year and was a member of the all-girl dance ground “Girltrends” of “It’s Showtime” in 2012.
Aged 18 and above, these girls talk about the perks of being a debutante.
You get to be responsible and independent,” says Sue.
Iyong freedom mo to do kung ano iyong gusto mo, at the same time, iyong awareness mo kaya dapat alam mo na rin dapat iyong limits mo,” asserts Miles.
Feeling ko, pag 18 ka, you’re becoming a lady and you have to act like one. May mga expectation din po from your family especially me, growing up as an only daughter, so, it’s more of different for me. I have to be more careful in everything that I do,” declares Chanel.
Ibig sabihin, pinagkakatiwalaan ka na as an adult ng parents mo, when it comes to maturity, responsibility and being a lady.
These five girls are out to paint the whole town red in what Direk Prime Cruz describes as a ‘color’ horror film with a different flavour replete with Pinoy sensibilities.
They are the title rolers in “The Debutantes,” the scariest movie of the season that hits cinemas nationwide starting October 4.
