Mr. & Mrs. Cruz’s director: Wala akong balak pakasal

Jan 24, 2018

Have you experienced that intense moment when a movie character seems talking to you or his line is exactly what you’ve been dreading and wanting to tell someone; or what you’ve been feeling for so long, but never really realized it until you heard it? That’s hugot.

Talking of ‘hugot’ lines, box office director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo (Kita Kita) has a lot of it in her newest magnum opus, “Mr. & Mrs. Cruz.”

Her latest outing will tackle issues about love, commitment and marriage.

But where does she get all those “hugot” lines?

“Siguro sa mga experiences ko, sa personal experiences ko sa mga relatives and friends ko na hiwalay. Well, product din ako ng broken family, so, hiwalay ang mga parents ko. So, may mga questions ako kahit noong bata pa ako, is it still worth it na ikasal? Iyong ganoon,” she intimated.

Being a product of a broken home somehow affected her views on marriage.

Yes, it did. May mga tanong ako like kung bakit ba may marriage and yet importante iyong marriage. Kasi, kawawa ang anak mo kapag naghiwalay kayo kasi walang legal na habol,” she said.

Just like anyone, she admitted that she had her share of heartbreaks.

I’ve been in a relationship for so long, tapos nag-break. Inabot nga siya ng three years,” she revealed.

Tapos, doon ko na-realize na wala palang forever,” she added.

However, she clarified that she’s not ‘bitter’ and has come out stronger as a person each time.

Hindi ko pa na-experience na ikasal, pero na-experience ko na iyong love and commitment sa relationship,” she pointed out.

She also said that her movies are not really meant to elicit ‘kilig’moments in the audience.

Despite the family dysfunction and failed relationship, she still believes in happy endings.

“I do believe naman sa ‘happy endings.’ Iyong sa “Kita Kita,” iyong nakita niya sa sarili niya na puwede pala siyang magmahal ng isang taong hindi niya nakikita, that’s happiness for me at iyong nakuha mo iyong mga answers mo sa sarili mo like sa Mr. & Mrs. Cruz, that’s also a bliss. Ang importante kasi sa akin iyong personal happiness,” she elucidated.

She said that she does not see herself marrying yet.

Wala akong balak pakasal. Ayaw ko lang, kasi it’s a personal choice. Ang hirap kasing maghiwalay pagkatapos ikasal. Gusto ko iyong tradisyon ng kasal, iyong walking down the aisle pero pagkatapos noon, baka hiwalay na agad,” she said.

According to her, “Mr. & Mrs. Cruz” is a story of real relationships of real people.

Sa mga nakikita mo kasi ngayon, parang ‘sanitized’ na iyong relationship. Dito sa movie, we talk of real people. Raw iyong emotions, no filter. It’s about the relationship talaga of real people. Even iyong hitsura nina Ryza at JC, iba rin. Ginawa naming natural. Walang pa-abs or pa-sexy although may mga sensual scenes. We made it more natural,” she pointed out.

She said that she’s also fond of travelling.
