Music lovers, concert fanatics make way for Tres Marias
Musically super talented, members of the super group Tres Marias are already venerated in their respective circles even before they came together. The singing trio is composed of Lolita Carbon from the iconic folk-rock band Asin, celebrated Color It Red vocalist Cooky Chua and World Music goddess Bayang Barrios.
Tres Marias was formed when the three kept bumping into each other at rallies which they attend and perform at separately. Recognizing their chemistry as a trio and being a fan of each other’s music, they started doing shows as one “just for kicks” until they decided to make the group official in 2012 without leaving behind their respective careers. The name was thought up for easy recall though it could also be a statement on femininity.
Each possessing distinct voice that has captivated music lovers for years now, Tres Marias brings to the table an amalgam of styles and musicality that make best even better. Some of their numbers whether on record or live gigs feature harmonies yet there are also solo numbers that showcase more of the artist’s pop side.
Tres Marias is with Curve Entertainment, Inc, a new force in the music industry that’s been aggressively signing up the next batch of important Filipino artists. The trio was brought to their attention by no less than legendary OPM artist Gary Granada.
Their eponymous debut album contains originals as well as special versions of well-loved songs by master tunesmiths. These are “Wika,” the first single that reminds people of love for mother tongue; a scorching cover of the Dina Bonnevie coming-of-age classic “Bakit Ba Ganyan;” the heartfelt “Kung Tayoy’s Magkakalayo” first sung by Rey Valera; “Sana” which Tres Marias always perform in their shows for its uplifting message; a take on another Rey Valera signature song “Ayoko Na Sa Yo;” and “Kung Ayaw Mo Na Sa Akin,” which is a salute to Granada, their ally and advocate.
Tres Marias will be having their first major concert on September 4, 2015 8PM at the Music Museum. The show will feature the best session musicians with Mel Villena as MD and Ernie Duque as director. Expect a lot of surprises and heart-warming renditions of favorite Filipino tunes by the trio. They will also perform their respective hits.
Asked to weigh in on the emergence of the group given the trend in the local music industry, Lolita, Cooky and Bayang are unfazed. Being known as trailblazers in their respective careers, and now with each other, Tres Marias will deliver on their promise of great music and further conquer the scene that each of them already had at hello.
Aside from enjoying world-class talent, the audience of Tres Marias would surely enjoy the camaraderie they share onstage that is based on real friendship, freewheeling spirit, and humility in greatness. Indeed, egos are set aside when they are Tres Marias and all perform as unit with each element as important as the rest.
