No one’s too old or too cool for ‘Disney on Ice’
A huge show is coming up at the SM Mall of Asia Arena and, no, it’s not an indie-pop band’s concert, an EDM festival, or a Spice Girls reunion. It’s Disney on Ice — the ice-skating-slash-musical spectacle that’s been spreading holiday cheers to children year in and year out.
This year, Feld Entertainment, Inc. partners with SM Lifestyle Entertainment to bring the Wonderful World of Disney on Ice to the Philippine audiences. Guests can expect an entirely new production with the addition of characters from recent Disney blockbusters Frozen and Finding Dory in the mix. That means in one night, Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Dory, Nemo, and Marlin, along with other beloved Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Donald Duck will come to life, singing and dancing to those Disney hits.
To the teens, young adults, and 20-somethings who feel like they’ve outgrown their fascination with fairy tales and would rather stay at home or go elsewhere while the entire family book a ticket to the show, Blake Tatroe of Feld Entertainment, Inc., suggests that they give it a shot.
Tatroe points out that each generation has its Disney story and everyone will find a piece of those stories as well as the characters they love in the show, making it an avenue to close generational gaps. “Stories that I grew up with, like The Lion King and Aladdin connect with different audiences. Stories like Finding Dory and Toy Story connect with different audiences. Everybody knows someone who’s like a Disney character. My favorite is always to compare my brother to Goofy; he’s very similar and clumsy,” he says.
“The structure of this show is built to reawaken that inner child in most young adults. You’re never too cool, you’re never too old to be a kid. Trust me, I do it for a living,” continues Tatroe. “I would say to all those kids, ‘Come and sit down. If you smile for one time during the show, then you’re meant to be there.’ And I guarantee they will.”
The “Wonderful Wold of Disney on Ice” will run from December 25, 2016 to January 4, 2017 at the MOA Arena. Tickets (starting at P175) may now be purchased on www.smtickets.com or at SM Cinema ticket booths nationwide.
