Q&A with volleyball star Alyssa Valdez
When that love for ball started?
“I started playing volleyball because of my brothers and I just enjoyed it because i get to bond with girls at my age.”
Having all these recognitions and achievements, do you imagine yourself being a champion?
“Not really. I imagined myself really happy becauseI get to play the sport that i love.”
What does it take to be a champion?
“It takes a lot of patience and hardwork to be a Champion and champs sacrifice a lot too. But having that strong and big heart is what they need to remain champion.”
Do you ever quit or has it crossed your mind?
“Never. Rarely I am feeling tired and questioning myself why I love this sport but that is when im reminded to stay and keep on going.”
Why do you think Filipinos love women’s volleyball (and now, even boys play it)?
“I think the sport is interesting enough to get the attention from most pinoys but I believe that the sport is relatable to most Filipinos. Just like basketball, someone could actually play the sport anywhere. And it promotes agreat value which is pakikisama since you could play the sport with anyone.”
Define/describe the power of woman
“Being able to influence other people and being able to be strong inspite of different challenges.”
Biggest fight?
“As a human being, it is a constant challenge to remain confident.”
Your best “yehey” moments?
“Winning a championship.”
Message to young athletes.
“Just focus on your goal but be reminded that you have to love and enjoy what your doing. And along the way you’ll experience success and failure, which will mold you to be a better athletes.”

“Happy and Content.”
Lifestyle/diet?
“Lifestyle – very simple but I once learn to reward yourself once in a while. Diet. — I dont have one. But as an athlete it is important to eat healthy and sleep early.”
Favorite volleyball player and why?
“Honestly, my brothers because they inspired me and motivated to be one too.”
When not playing, what do you do?
“I try to learn something about myself too. Coz for the longest time I was focused on volleyball. Right now I try different sports and try to maximize all the opportunities given to me because of volleyball.”
After game, what do you do?
“I go eat and rest.”
