RS Francisco welcomes straight guy roles

Feb 27, 2018

Award-winning actor RS Francisco is Lisbon-bound to attend the 2018 Fantasporto International Film Festival in Portugal where his movie “Bhoy Intsik” is slated to compete.

Included in his delegation are Direk Joel Lamangan, Jim Pebanco and his mentor Tony Mabesa.

The acclaimed film will be shown at the Rivoli Grand Auditorium in Porto in Northern Portugal.

Although flattered for his nomination, he said he does not want to expect any award.

Just like his victory at the Star Awards for Movies, he said that it’s something that he did not expect.

Actually, ang ma-nominate kasama nila Vic Sotto, Piolo Pascual, Dingdong, Aga at Robin Padilla is such a huge honor by itself. I wasn’t expecting any more than that. I’ve watched them, I admire them and alam ko kung gaano sila kagaling. And even if I was chosen to receive this highly-coveted honor, I believe it is a tie among all of us nominees,” he humbly pointed out.

This is Francisco’s second best actor award for his performance as a con artist with a heart of gold in the said Joel Lamangan megger.

He snagged his first best actor trophy in “Bhoy Intsik” in Sinag Maynila filmfest last year.

For RS, winning an award is also an inspiration for him to be better in his craft.

“It’s a reminder for us actors to keep excelling in our craft,” he said.

RS is also the President of Frontrow International, a leading global brand in food supplements, with Sam Versoza, his business partner, as the company’s CEO.

After “Bhoy Intsik,” he is set to stage a comeback to his first love: theatre.

“Actually, nami-miss ko na ang umarte pero mas nami-miss ko ang play, kung saan ako nagsimula,” he declared.

Proudly gay, he does not believe that he will be typecast in gay or gender-bending roles.

“Nakapag-play na ako ng transvestite, naging mujerista ako sa “Sibak,” tempered na bading sa “She’s The One,” malanding bading sa “Past Tense” pero never pa akong nakapag-portray ng straight sa movies. Sa stage, nagawa ko na siya,” he shared.

If given a chance, he wants to prove that he could also do straight guy roles with credibility.

“Iyong nga ang sabi ko, kung puwede akong ma-challenge, I can play straight roles. Siguro, iyon ang pinaka-challenging na puwede kong magawa,” he concluded.

Aside from the food supplement business, RS’ Frontrow will be active in film production this year. It will also be producing commercials and concerts.

Their next movie project is a horror movie with Solenn Heusaff and Benjamin Alves as lead stars.

It will be supported by topnotch actors Cherie Gil, Angel Aquino, Gina Alajar, Sylvia Sanchez, Maxene Medina and Fabio Ide. It will be line produced by Jonas Gaffud, the founder of Mercator and maker of beauty queens.

In the development stage are a rom-com, a documentary about people bringing corpses to their departed in remote mountains and a movie based on a true to life story.
