How Ryza Cenon shuts her “georgia-mode-on”

Jan 11, 2018

Acclaimed actress and Starstruck alumnus Ryza Cenon admitted that she had a hard time in portraying her role in the movie “Mr. and Mrs. Cruz,” her second movie under IdeaFirst Company of power couple Perci Intalan and Jun Lana and the outfit’s first collaboration with Viva Films.

“Medyo nahirapan po talaga. Kasi, iyong last time na nag-lead po ako was sa “Ang Manananggal” na ginawa ko even before na gawin ko iyong soap ko na “Ika-6 na Utos,” she said.

“Tapos, medyo nasanay na po ako as Georgia. Kabisado ko na po ang karakter niya,” she added.

With the guidance of her director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo (“Ang Huling Chacha ni Anita,” “Lorna,” “Kita Kita”), she was able to meet the requirements of her role as Gela.

“Iba kasi iyong atakeng ginawa ko sa role. Ang maganda po kasi doon, nag-lock in po kasi kami for 10 days. 10 days po ako as Gela na walang Georgia,” she confided.

She also said that there were times when she had a tendency to revert to her iconic kontrabida role.

“May time na ganoon, na pumapasok si Georgia. Para ma-break ko siya, lagi akong nire-remind ni Direk na huwag na huwag maging Georgia,” she asseverated.

She also said that the role of Gela is the hardest and most challenging role that she has done, to date.

“Totally different siya sa character ko in real life… and I find the real challenge there,” she explained.

Aside from being an actor’s piece, she also learned a lot from her character.

“Nasagot niya iyong mga tanong ko sa mga bagay-bagay, tungkol sa love, commitment at sa relationships,” she declared.

“I think, I became wiser sa love after this movie,” she added.

During the shoot, she also confessed that she literally had ‘buwis-buhay’ experiences.

“There was a time na nagsho-shoot kami sa Palawan na ‘high tide’. Ako pa naman, I don’t really know how to swim although nakakagawa ako ng free style. May eksena na kailangan naming sumisid so, kahit papaano, nag-aral ako,” she said.

Ryza is now under Viva Management Artist Agency but still claims to be a loyal Kapuso.

“Mr. and Mrs. Cruz” is about the story of a couple Raffy (JC Santos) and Gela (Ryza) who decided to go to Palawan to take a breather and ponder on the state of their relationship.

In the idyllic island, their beliefs on love, commitment and marriage will be put to test.

From the direction of Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, the phenomenal box office director behind “Kita Kita,” “Mr. and Mrs. Cruz” is Ryza’s first screen team up with JC Santos (100 Tula Para kay Stella).

An early Valentine’s Day presentation from Idea First Company and Viva Films, it unreels in cinemas nationwide starting January 24.
