Saab Magalona tries theater
By Ruben Marasigan
“I’ve always been working,” aniya nga nang makakuwentuhan ng Phillipine Showbiz Republic (PSR). “I just kinda had a break from TV. But I’ve always been writing for my blog, contributing for other publications. And I have a radio show coming up on JAM 88.3 (FM). I also have a band. We’re launching an album this July 3. It’s produced by Ely Buendia.”
May teleserye ba siya ulit na gagawin?
“Not right now. I think I like what I’m doing na hindi siya on TV. It’s more relaxed. And I’m actually doing a lot of different things. Because when I’m on TV parang… the schedule is so crazy. Now I am able to do a lot of the things I love, kasi the schedule is more forgiving.”
“I think nothing big has changed. I think it’s really fun. I’m having so much fun. I think it’s because I’ve married my bestfriend.”
‘Yung iba kasi, nahihirapan pang mag-adjust agad-agad.
“I think the most difficult part personally is learning how to budget,” tawa niya.“Siyempre when it’s just me, I didn’t really care. But now that we’re trying to save for the future kasi we have responsibilities tied to another person, you have to make sure that you have a good future ahead of you. Especially you know, we’d want to have children but it will not happen soon… but we want to be prepared. So I’ve been taking care of the budgeting.”
Bakit ayaw pa niyang magka-baby sila ni Jim?
“We just wanna have fun and enjoy each other’s company ng mga three to four years muna. I just wanna travel first and be on our own.”
Saan sila nag-honeymoon?
“We went to Japan. But we’re going to Paris this October.”
Ilang kids ang gusto nila kung saka-sakali?
“Well, I don’t know. Definitely more than one, that’s all I can say.”
“I discovered na I never get tired of seeing his face!,” tawa ulit na huling nasabi ni Saab.
Ito ay sa Monologue series na No Filter: Let’s Talk About Me which will have its run from July 25 to August 2, 2015, sa RCBC Theater sa Makati City.
Directed by Toff de Venecia, kasama niya sa cast sina Mikael Daez, Lauren Young, Jasmine Curtis Smith, Cai Cortez, Sarah Facuri, Khalil Kaimo, at si Micah Munoz.
What made her say yes sa nasabing play?
“I honestly said yes because it was Toff. I’ve never done theater before.
I actually have stage fright. This is freaking me out!” sabay ngiti niya.
“But… YOLO, you only live once! So you gotta try it,” tawa ni Saab.
“When Toff talked to me about this, I said…’Oh, I hope you’re asking me to write something ‘coz I can’t perform. I can’t do anything on stage. I’ve never done it before. And he [Toff] said, ‘Kaya mo ‘yan. You’ll just gonna read lang naman onstage, e.’ And I’m supposed to memorize it [monologues].”
“For the non-millennilas, I think it’s a good way to understand what the heck is going on with our generation. And for the millennials, I think you should watch it because kami when we were reading it (the monologues), we really just understood na we are so not alone. You know, with all our mga hugot… it’s just everyone can relate to what we are reading. It would be good for you guys to know that you’re not alone.”
