Valeen Montenegro enjoys her right(write) moment
Kapuso actress Valeen Montenegro gets her biggest break in the romantic comedy “The Write Moment,” an entry to the 2017 Quezon City International Film Festival.
“The Write Moment” follows the story of a heartbroken writer who tries to get back with an ex through a “hugot” script but fails and instead finds himself living in the scenes he wrote.
According to Valeen, she can relate to her role as the girl who broke the main protagonist’s heart.
“Lahat naman ng babae kasi talaga, aminin natin, complicated tayo. Gaya na lang noong karakter kong si Joyce na nai-inlove at nang-iiwan ng walang dahilan. Alam mo may mga tao talagang ganoon, sometimes you really fall out of love. So, very relatable siya sa lahat ng couple,” she said.
She also believes that just like her character, a person could still be friends with her ex.
“I think so. I think you should be friends, lalo na kung wala namang third party involved tulad na lang iyong kuwento ng movie. So, dapat may forgiveness, so you could help each other move on and help each other grow as a person,” she explained.
She said it’s her first time to work with comedian Jerald Napoles on the big screen.
“Amazing ang experience. Sobrang comfortable nga kami. Kailangan kong hindi matawa kasi lagi siyang nagpapatawa lalo na kung seryoso ang eksena. So, iyon ang pinaka-struggle. Aside from that, sobrang comfy naman kami sa isa’t-isa,” she declared.
She added, that working with Jerald in “Sunday Pinasaya” helped a lot to strengthen their rapport.
“I think, nakatulong siya kasi gamay na namin ang isa’t-isa, so wala nang ilangan,” Valeen said.
She also considers herself lucky to be handled by new breed director Dominic Lim.
“I am blessed na nabigyan ako ng opportunity to work with him. I believe in his vision. He knows what he’s really doing. Siya ang nagsulat ng iskrip dahil baby niya ito so, we really felt na kailangan ang collaborative effort. Maganda ring makatrabaho ang mga young directors dahil fresh iyong kanilang atake at marami kang matututunan sa kanila,” she pointed out.
Valeen is also thankful that she’s given the opportunity to shine in lead roles in indie films like Malay Javier’s “Every Room is a Planet” last year and in Dominic Lim’s “The Write Moment” this year.
“I’m very blessed na sa mga indie nabibigyan ako ng pagkakataong mag-lead. Natutuwa ako na pag may role na bagay sa akin, naiisip nila ako,” she concluded.
Aside from the GMA-7 Sunday noontime variety show “Sunday Pinasaya,” Valeen is a mainstay of the longest running gag show “Bubble Gang.”
