VP Sara’s net satisfaction drops — SWS

Aug 11, 2024

A public message that went viral on the social media which says “we do not deserve to have a vice president” highlighted the peoples’ sentiment that saw Vice President Sara Duterte’s rating to drop significantly.

Among the most read of the message was “we do not deserve a vice president who failed miserably as Education secretary,” leaving her a few loyal but unqualified underlings.

In the latest SWS survey, Sara Duterte’s net satisfaction rating has dropped significantly by 19 points from +63 in March 2024 to +44 in June 2024. This decline moves her rating from the “Very Good” category to the “Good” category. This decrease is noteworthy for several reasons, particularly if she is considering a bid for the presidency in 2028.

According to the SWS, the drop in satisfaction suggests that Vice President Duterte may be losing some of the political momentum she had built earlier in her term.

A 19-point decline is substantial and may indicate growing dissatisfaction or unmet expectations among certain segments of the population.

The survey revealed that  decline is most defined in regions where she previously had strong support, like in the Visayas, her rating dropped by 22 points, and in Balance Luzon, it fell by 26 points and even in Mindanao, her stronghold, there was a 7-point decline.

With the latest survey, Sara’s ambition to become the next president, which is still  more than four year away is now inn limbo.

“If this trend continues, it could affect Duterte’s chances in a 2028 presidential bid. A continued decline might embolden potential rivals and weaken her ability to secure early endorsements or support from key political allies. It could also shift the dynamics within her political base, leading to challenges from within her own party or coalition.

The net satisfaction rating is derived by subtracting those who said they were satisfied from those who were dissatisfied with the performance of the government official.

Dissatisfaction with Duterte was highest among those in Metro Manila at 27 percent (from 18 percent), closely followed by those in the rest of Luzon at 26 percent (from 14 percent), the Visayas at 19 percent (from 10 percent), and Mindanao at nine percent or same as in the last survey.

A continued decline might embolden potential rivals and weaken her ability to secure early endorsements or support from key political allies.
